Bojack really struck a nerve when he compared Diane to him and, although her anger was totally justified (with the therapist issue), the WAY she went about it was horrible. I agree; it was extremely toxic of Diane to take a personal moment in his life, make it into a script, and have him relive for all to see. You can say many things about Bojack -- he would never do what Diane did to him. And what's sad? All this does is make her feel even more like a terrible person. So she traded a cathartic moment for even more pain down the road.
That said... eventually, Bojack has to confront what happened in Mexico. Everyone that pointed he doesn't like to take responsibility is right on the money. He's scared if he acknowledges the hurtful things he's done -- it would define him as a bad person. That's a major huddle he'll need to cross. Because until he does, he will sadly continue to blame others for his misgivings and use them as emotional punching bags. Then people will have enough of his shit, and you'll get... well, moments like this.

I'm not necessarily calling him a victim either. And you're right. He should eventually confront it (as I said above) but let's not pretend that moment didn't impact him whatsoever. He does feel horrible and he's clearly beating himself up about it too. We have to remember not all traumatic moments come from things done to US in particular. Some moments come from things WE'VE done wrong too. What matters is the intense feeling of fear, severe anxiety, and depression. Apologies if I confused you.

i think it's kind of weird to call what happened in New Mexico a traumatic moment for HIM, he almost slept with a child, he's not a victim, and he deserves to feel horrible for that. and he SHOULD have to relive it. not saying what she did was right because Penny could've seen that and it could've really hurt her, but no one should be feeling bad for Bojack in this i feel like, like he almost slept with a little girl

I want to add that when Diane spirals, she pretty much only blows up her own life (PB’s too, but they were married so that’s a given). When Bojack spirals, he’s like a hurricane. He blows up everyone else’s lives and then……. just moves on. 0 accountability. Charlotte, Penny, Sarah Lynn, even Todd. They all suffered from Bojack’s spirals.

i feel like she did it less to hold him accountable (even tho that's still part of the motivation) and more out of anger and "im just going to show you just how wrong you are about saying im as bad as you" which i mean... i guess it's still understandable and im sure it's cathartic and tbh this might be one of the main ways to get a reaction from bojack but the motivation and unprofessional way she went about it was kind of terrible. bojack is 10000% worse if you wanna compare but her doing that didnt really help her case imo. also way to just tell penny's trauma via a tv show and just change the names? ofc it might not be obvious this is connected to her but still kinda a short-sighted move by diane and imo idk if it's worse to see your trauma as motivation behind a shitty tv show vs potentially just having the audio leaked. still nowhere near "as bad as bojack" tho just in case ppl think im tryna hate on diane but just bc your actions potentially lead to something favorable doesnt automatically mean it was right for you to do it

exactly i think she was just trying to hold him accountable cuz this episode made it very clear that he cannot and is not willing to take responsibility for all the shitty things he’s done

It's such a cathartic moment! And because Bojack routinely gets away with bullshit, I understand why Diane wouldn't worry about putting that scene on t.v. It's like when Kevin Spacey was in House of Cards and playing a version of the bastard he was in real life. Happens all the time.

diane has actually mentioned she’s been in therapy since the first season. it came up a lot in the episode she went back to her family home and how she was dealing with that

honestly i totally understand why Diane did what she did, i'd be so upset if i were her and Bojack said i was just as bad as him. because yes Diane has issues, but she's not as bad as him, she didn't almost sleep with a child or do a bunch of other horrible things he's done, so i understand her going and writing that into the script to throw back in his face
