James did indeed bully snape with the others and i believe he might have bullied other people too so obviously he wasn’t the kindest when in school but why he was attacking snape in particular is that snape was very invested in dark arts and blood purity. He even called Lily a mudblood ones. And James really hated that kind of stuff. This was explained in the books.

That's how she got into the story of her mother dying. I can only theorize that it could be the same explanation behind why only Luna and Harry can hear the voices behind the veil.
