When you really dive into it, this storyline with Lily can actually be REALLY good. A woman realizing that she just repeats the same patterns in her relationships even at the cost of her own children biological and adopted alike. A woman fighting back to break the cycle!!!! The problem though is that the introduction and characterization of Lily made her EXTREMELY unlikable that to me by the time we got to this episode, which is where Lily was at her most interesting to me, it was too late. I didn't care what happened to her and like Damon, I too believed that she deserves what she gets. This could have been a powerful story and my favorite of the season IF they had handled Lily's character better.

2023-09-08 20:51:38 +0000 UTCAgreed, the writing in season 7 is a bit wonky. Julian is so obnoxious. I think the second part of season 7 gets better. I love the characters, so it still holds my attention, but definitely some interesting choices. I admire the show continuing and finding new life after Elena. It’s Stefan’s story at the end of the day in my mind.
