So. Video Games. This is gonna be long.

I know you guys have been waiting a while this month for Arcadia. At least two pages coming before the month rolls over, but I definitely want to let you in on what I've been doing the last couple weeks.

I have several creative outlets. 2D art is the biggest one, but I also really enjoy making games. I haven't talked about it much because up until recently I've just been shit at it. It's sheer inexperience. But I don't think I have a lack of aptitude. The first game I ever actually finished was made in two days during a gamejam and I placed in the top ten percentile. That's an achievement I'm incredibly proud of for my first try.

I kept honing my skills, throwing out prototype after prototype. A lot of them involved transformation in some way. I made VNs, I made platformers, I made puzzle games. I had mechanics where you'd turn into a girl after you lost a certain amount of health, or where you could freely switch between genders for different movesets.

I just sucked information up from everywhere. If there was a neat effect I wanted to learn how to make it. If there was a tool I wanted to learn how to use it. I learned CSS, Javascript, GML, C#. I installed Unreal Engine, GameMaker Studio, Unity.

These projects were all weeks apart from each other. It was something I'd do when that 2D creative outlet wasn't firing. When I was having trouble drawing lines I would just write them instead. Now I'm in a bit of an awkward situation where I've actually really hit a stride with an idea I enjoy and I'm not sure where to go from here.

I added a line of sight system to an old isometric camera system I wrote awhile ago and ideas just started flowing.

Then I wrote a level generator.

Then I started in with linking the line of sight system to more systems and putting art into the mix.

Now I'm so deep into this project that I'm writing AI code for a game I'm not even sure I should be using my time and resources on.

Right now, before this goes any farther, I just want to make sure that I'm not going to put myself in a terrible situation where my fans don't want this kind of stuff and I end up losing my support over it. I know that game devs are a dime a dozen these days. I know that most of them make shitty games that no one wants. I also know that bad devs usually don't know they're bad devs.

I don't want to pretend from the beginning that I'm immune from that. I haven't even wanted to risk myself on this because up until this point I knew I was terrible. But there's a game I want to make. A transformation based game that takes inspiration from a myriad of games.

In two weeks of serious work I put together the beginnings of that game, but I'll only use 'Patreon Time' on it if there's actual support. As far as content, think my comics or Corruption of Champions. As far as gameplay, I'm still working out the specifics but I'm drawing inspiration mainly from SRPGs for combat.

Sorry for throwing all this out at once. As far as how this affects my other work, you guys can still expect 3-4 pages a month even if I'm working on this. It would also open the game up to community feedback and demos. Welp. That's all I got. Fire at will.

Nice :-)

What kind of game? I’m in 3D arts... Maybe eventually I might help!

Tfanctred

Sounds cool!

Crissa Kentavr

I mean ... YOU DAMN KIDS AND YOUR VEGEMITE GAMES! GET OFF MY LAWN >:V

Cischiral

I would be interested in backing it, but am also still interested in seeing your comics...

Aaron Cardarelli

I'm onboard with this! I'll even raise my pledge :)

johnny_vulpine

The concern here isn't that there's really a lack of love or aptitude, but that while I'm certain this is something you're using as a creative destressor (which I think is very important for any type of artist) it's not something that atm there's more than the barest bones concep. From your 2D work I would be more than certain that any concept and story ideas would be fantastic - but saying that I want to back something without ever seeing something more than the idea of it isn't something I'm really willing to do. Especially when it means backing it more/less instead of something I actually was backing. And also because right now if right now Patreon Time = the amount of comic and general art content we've been getting, I'd be very concerned with comic updates based on the current update schedule and frequency of updates.

Go for it, you have my support!

Yes yes absolutely! Go for it!

Izzy Jones

If it's like CoC but with more visual detail I'd be interested. Just make sure if you ever sell it don't have the company be something like "adult xxx games" or whatever, pick a basic simple name that wouldn't be embarrassing to have on a receipt.

Bluegreydragon

The world needs for more good TF Games

Constantine

Sounds good! Go for it!

I'm all on board for well made and detailed TF games.

Black Robed Mage

I'm on board for this creative outlet.

Mits

You're making lewd TF games now? I don't mind you using Patreon time on it as long as you keep us updated! Sounds like fun!

TheBleachDoctor

tl;dr: I side with getting current projects to a logical pause place and then focusing on where your energy is pointing. *** Looks like you've got the full range of reactions here. I think that the unspoken masses will be cool with whatever you decide, and not stating an opinion is that equivalent. For what it's worth, here's my analysis. Energy is best spent where energy is present. That is to say, if you're really vibing on the game, do the game and keep the patrons up to date. I think starting a second campaign splits your audience and allows both to be lackluster, and to continually cause you the heartache you're struggling with now. In the end, it also seems likely that you end up with the same amount of patrons and incoming dollars. Or, hey, it could be a patron bidding war with each side competing to send you more money than the other, so you'll work on what they really want to see! Unfortunately, my crystal ball is broken and I'm otherwise a bad judge of human behavior. I'm staying for a while, regardless because I love the art and story and the game looks good so far. Okay, so you are switching over to games now, instead of doing comics? Well, people change, and nothing lasts forever. It was good run while it lasted as they say. You had some great comics under your belt. But its time to move on in life. We all understand that. Wishing you luck in your future endeavors in that field or other fields you choose to pursue from here on out. Have a happy new year and a good life my friend!

WarFox

I would love to see more of this! I'm a big fan of text-based TF games, and it's hard to find (good) visual ones where you can actually see what's happening to your character. It's hard to get much idea of the story/setting from the snippets shown here, but the art and mechanics look very elegant and professional, and if it's going to involve the kinds of scenarios that happen in your comics and other art, I can hardly think of anything I'd be more excited to play! The main worry I'd have would be that adding this project to your Patreon would make it no longer a low-stress, no-strings project that you could use to recharge between your paid work. If you don't think that will be an issue, though, by all means bring it on! (Actually, please show us more of this even if you do decide to just keep it a side project in your spare time, because this sounds like it could be amazing.)

Chrysalis

I'm honestly raising my support tier. I'm not just okay with this, I'm absolutely ecstatic! Bring on the TF sprite gaaaaaame!! Also holy cow your work thusfar is really impressive! You really have a knack for this stuff.

Ngrasta

Please understand the amount of horny fans you have that are also gamers. This will go fine. You have literally nothing to worry about.

Rek

That is really neat, I had no idea you had participated and placed in game james before. If it is transformation related I am all in.

Cischiral

I think it's awesome that you're branching out, but tbh I'd like to see some current projects finished before my Patreon dollars start funding a disparate endeavor. I realize I may be in the minority here, but maybe 2d art and interactive media ought to have separate cashflows.

I'm totally fine with you working on this game idea. It looks cool so far and I would love to have patron demos and such.

Cora, I don't think you could disappoint your fans easily. You've been amazing to us so far. With that said, don't burn yourself out on video game making. It's a high that's ever fleeting. Crunching in time to meet a deadline really saps the creative potential from the project. With that said, you should totally follow through with this. You've never let us down before, Cora. You're being honest with us. Even if it doesn't pan out, you wouldn't be letting us down. Just based on some of the little snippets you've shown, I was actually impressed. The game-play doesn't slog even if there's not much to it at the moment. If you make mechanics that are plain fun to mess around with, like kiting the weird nipple dogs, you'll have a fun emergent game. With the medium you're using (iso), you can do all kinds of fun things that work together so good choice. Anyway, what kind of plans for gameplay elements do you have aside from the obvious TF stuff?

CiPhi

Said it before, say it again, make a new campaign for video games and see how much time you can allocate to this based on the support you'll get :P GL HF

Kullax

Sounds great, looks really interesting. I'm the same way with writting. Sometimes switching to a separate genre / medium is what you need to get into your work again. I would totally back that game.l. If it does become a separate patreon project, and gets enough funding, I would definitely recommend you find someone to help you manage it or callaborate with so it doesn't get overwhelming.

Totoro too

It'll probably be easier to put out comic pages if you're also working on your game, which obviously has a lot of your interest.

Zod

Game devs may be a dime a dozen, but in our genre not so much. Goes without saying I would love to see more in the field (and to have a chance to play more TF games!), particularly with your level of talent. Can't wait!

Little Napoleon

You know, I've been itching for an experience more similar to Fire Emblem and the original Fallout. Whatever you make, be it that or not, transormational or not, just put the crowdfund link up and I'll support you.

Robert Louis Stoll

Do it Cora, that'll be a great cool thing if you got all that drive.

AAA

I'm all for this work going into a transformation game. Maybe based on the Arcadia/BnE universe? Good luck!
