The thing with humans coming back after being wiped out is either a result of evolution taking course again or the god of light creating some without the same magical abilities the original humans had. Either way the only thing we know for sure is that the god of light said "and in time, your kind will grow to walk it's face once again." Also I don't know if you understood and just didn't express it, but Cinder is the reason they failed because of her obsession with Ruby and that deal she made with Raven in volume 5 which, as Salem states in this episode was Cinder putting her desires before Salem's. Just seemed like you didn't fully understand so in case you didn't now you know.
