Hunter x Hunter Special Event

Ok, so this is strictly a PATREON exclusive.

Been getting a lot of suggestions to check out this 1999 episode as it covers some ground not seen in the new series.

So, as a one off “FULL SCREEN” special event (thus the link) here is a “never to be seen anywhere else” one-off episode of 99’ HxH

(Sorry, Initial D fans, but I’ll get on that one, promise).

Enjoy...

Hunter x Hunter Special Event

Comments

Thanks for the comment man. Very informative. I sourced the video from YouTube. So the opening and ending credits were most likely removed so it wouldn’t be blocked.

Oh, I forgot. The source of your ep.1(1999) video added a different opening and ending (probably channel-thematic), and left out the actual opening and ending songs. That is unfortunate, because the ending song is one of the highlights IMO. It is Aunt Mito singing, conveying her sense of loss and loneliness now that Gon has left. (1999 was not afraid to include somber elements from the very beginning.) I hope that one day you can see it with the subtitles. It is not vital, but it is just an element that feels very right.

Add me to the list of folks happy you covered this. I'm one of the ones suggesting you watch this, or read the first chapter of the manga. Note that whoever suggested you read three probably said three *chapters* not three *volumes*. But you have the background now we were hoping you would get. Here are some things I would like to point out: 1) Gon was 9 during the extended flashback, and 12 at the beginning of the main continuum. Ging gave Kite (pronounced something like "Kee-toe" in Japanese) his Hunter license as incentive to find him and return it, and now Kite has passed the responsibility on to Gon. 2) Gon named the foxbear cub "Kon" in the manga, but the 1999 anime thought that would be confusing, so they changed it to "Konta". 3) Ep.1(2011) spans the first 3 episodes of 1999. While it is true that ep.2(1999) is non-canonical (i.e. not in the manga), Togashi was an executive producer for the original adaptation, and I have heard that he contributed to the four non-canonical episodes of 1999. Note that I am not calling them "filler", because everything 1999 added to the manga gave deeper insights into the characters, and flow with the manga story as a whole. I sort of think of it as an author's second pass at his story. "How could I have made this better."

Yeah, it seems weird to exclude him from the first episode. I see they tried to make that happy and bright first impression, but.. we can see Kite's silhouette in every opening. When the narrator says "They are known ... as Hunters!" he stands right in the middle of the screen. aah. Oh, and I heard about some fillers in later episodes of the 1999 version

really glad you decided to watch this. i am baffled that they didnt include Kite in the 2011 prologue.
