Best of Enemies

Harry had kidnapped Peter, the Alien Tracker. To do what with, I don't even think Harry knows. But Asta encourages the two to work together to infiltrate the alien storage camp for information on the Grays. A task which leads to more family encounters than they realized.

Are you ready? Let's go!

The alien tracker's son was seeing a pyscho doctor who turned him into the General. He got snatched off the street and bundled into a van after leaving his pyscho session... Remember? :-)

Wow! That is a lot of cool information. And the tighter pacing makes me excited for season 3

Although this episode was not without some major plot developments, I kind of feel like its major purpose was to move the pieces around on the board to make ready for the big season finale. But yes, Mr. Tudyk was especially awesome this episode, and the baby puppet or CGI animation or whatever it was was pretty adorable. But yeah, next week should be pretty interesting. So over the last couple of weeks, I've spent a fair amount of time down the rabbit hole that is YouTube interviews with the Resident Alien cast & crew. The YT algorithm apparently decided I would like to see a couple of them, and has been feeding them to me on the regular since. There are a LOT of them, and they're actually quite interesting. The vast majority of them appear to have been made back when Season 3 was coming out, so after next week's episode is done, you might find some of them interesting as well (and they won't have spoilers). I highly recommend them; the people that make this show are, I believe, uncommonly interesting, articulate, and have a LOT to say about the show and its themes. In particular, in addition to Alan Tudyk and showrunner/creator Chris Sheridan, I've found the insights from Corey Reynolds (Sheriff Mike), Alice Wetterlund (D'Arcy), Meredith Garretson (Kate), and Elizabeth Bowen (Liv) to be particularly interesting. I mean, all of them, really, but those few in particular struck me, maybe because they're not the people you would think would have the most to say. Sara Tomko (Asta) is also really interesting, I should add. Anyway, check some of them out if you can; I don't think you'd be disappointed. A couple of random things I learned from these videos: * Although the show is adapted, at least conceptually, from a short series of comic books, Chris Sheridan has changed things quite a bit from the source material. Apparently, in the comic books, Harry is a lot more serious, was not sent to Earth to destroy it, and spends most of his time -- ready for this? -- solving crimes! The show is a pretty different animal. * The role of Harry was the last major part to be cast; Alan Tudyk read for the part after dozens of others. The "fish out of water" aspects of the show and the comic overtones of the Harry character were a late change to the original concept; Sheridan kept watching auditions and many were fine, but none of them grabbed him, apparently. When Tudyk auditioned, he played up the idea of Harry being a stranger to his (human) body, moving and speaking slightly awkwardly. This was something Sheridan had not seen before and it immediately sold him, not only on Tudyk as the right guy for the role, but also on the whole tone of the character as Alan Tudyk played him. It probably would have been a very different show -- and maybe not nearly as good -- without him. * In one of the interviews I saw, Meredith Garretson commented that she felt that Kate, like Harry, was also a foreigner in Patience, and that this informed her performance to some extent. I remember you (Anna) noticing the same thing. Pretty cool. * To your comment that you need to see more people learn Harry's secret (well, not yours specifically, but that general feeling as expressed by fans of the show), Chris Sheridan had an interesting thought. He said that he really felt it was important to limit those discoveries, because too many of them would essentially change the show into something else. But there will still be some, don't worry! :) * Jenna Lamia, who plays Judy, is actually a writer on the show (this season, she wrote 2x3 and 2x13). She is also, apparently, an award winning Audiobook narrator, which makes Judy's side gig recording books (and her gift to Mike of her reading of "the Autobiography of Malcolm Ten") pretty amusing. * In Chris Sheridan's original treatment for the show, the plan was for Harry and Asta to eventually hook up and have a child together. But after watching Tomko and Tudyk together, almost everybody felt that their (considerable) chemistry felt more like that of mother and child, so they decided to lean into that instead, and to abandon the idea of Harry and Asta becoming an item. Totally the right call, if you ask me. * You've often expressed the thought that Season 2 has meandered a bit and has had some odd pacing, maybe including things that weren't really necessary. Believe it or not, showrunner Chris Sheridan agrees. In talking about the fact the Season 3 was only 8 episodes (half the number from Season 2), he said he actually thought the limited episode count forced them to tighten up the narrative a good deal and to eliminate some of the fluff. So you should like Season 3; it'll be a lot more focused! Anyway, that's some of the stuff. There's a lot more. If you have time, check some of it out.
