2025-02-07 07:08:14 +0000 UTCI think Jack miscalculated - even though Rogers had told him 'there are things you don't put in your book or people would stop inviting you to their parties', he didn't realise Rogers would be that ruthless. I think he still thought of him as the 'reasonable man' who was offering pardons and holding trials. So once Teach and Anne were taken that led him to the lesser of two bad choices - surrender and live or watch Teach and Anne die by continuing to resist? Maybe also because he hadn't captained a ship of that size before? I do agree I felt this is a little sloppy in the writing (maybe also in the direction? I remember being a bit confused the first time I watched this battle scene) and it seems there would be other possible solutions for Jack. In history Teach did get surprised by people hiding in a ship he thought was overwhelmed, but he died during the fighting rather than the keel hauling we saw here. On other parts of the episode, I love the 'western' vibe of the pirates entering the shuttered Nassau, and agree with you about the pleasing swift end of 'bad for bad's sake' characters, although Berringer was a little more nuanced than Ned Lowe. Also the look on Flint's face when he sees John and Madi reunite - something he wishes he had but has lost
