I do wish we got more closure with Dr Ethan. I don't know why, I just do. But I'm so happy that at least D'arcy knows!

So I either read or saw in an interview something about the "I believe" interviews that they used as a framing device in this episode. I don't remember all the details (I'm sure they're available online somewhere), but I believe the idea came to Chris Sheridan when he found out that Mike Richardson, founder of Dark Horse Media (who published the Resident Alien comics), had an alien encounter story of his own and was a True Believer. Sheridan wanted to have Liv tell her story to others at around this point in the show (i.e., around the end of the second season), and so he got the idea that Liv could do that in an interview (with an off-camera person who is ostensibly doing a documentary on the subject), and that he would then incorporate that with interviews of other believers, including Richardson. I don't know whether the other interviewees are real or fictional -- Mike Richardson (the first one they showed) definitely is real, and Liv Baker is definitely fictional, but the others, I'm not sure. But I think it's kind of an interesting way to make the increasingly more fantastic story continue to feel grounded. (*That's fantastic as in full of fantasy elements, not as in really great, though it is that as well) Apparently D'Arcy doesn't know the difference between a space alien and a ... dinosaur? That is so random. In any other character, I would've been scratching my head, but with D'Arcy, it makes perfect sense. Anyway, you got your wish - someone else knows now! It's a small thing, but I loved the hidden elevator effect, the mechanical way that the concrete wall "opened" to reveal it. It's a small thing and it doesn't mean anything, but I thought it was clever, and appreciated that they took the time to do something creative there and not just have the wall split in two or be revealed to be a holographic projection or something. Some VFX person earned their paycheck on that one. I kind of feel like there's a bit of a tonal shift in the show starting in Season 3. It's subtle, but they do lean a bit more into the Alien stuff and thus they spend a little less time on the small town slice of life stuff that I really feel is one of this show's strengths. I'm not sure how I feel about that entirely -- to some extent, it's part of the tightening up of the story that I mentioned Sheridan speaking about (in my comments last week), and I support that notion at least in principle. But I remember thinking on my first viewing of Season 3 that the show felt a little broader in its comedy and a little less heartfelt in its characterizations. Not by a huge amount, but enough that I noticed it, and I felt just a little sad about it. You, I think, Anna, may feel otherwise, based on other comments you've made throughout the show's run to date. I'll be interested in hearing, once we get to the end of Season 3, whether you thought Season 3 was better, worse, or about the same as the others from a storytelling standpoint, structurally, comedically, emotionally... Definitely will be interested to hear your thoughts. And looking forward to it!

I think it's the pregnant/not pregnant baby. But either way, how horrendous!!!

fun finale episode. But see what I meant about those 5-6 1-2 minute bits... eeeewwww.. Q: Mrs SheWhoMustBeObeyed's baby... is it Max's 'older' sister kept young by the Greys? Or is it the mysterious pregnant/not pregnant baby from earlier? "What? Chicken-butt!"
