I was supposed to track some guitar yesterday, but one thing led to another and Sara ended up coming by and we worked on this new song instead. The working title has been "The Kid's Album."
This is the first rough take. It's hard to hear the lyrics, but they are:
Hey- we’ll talk after the show
I’m kinda busy pressing buttons with my feet right now
But I see you bobbing in the front row
And I’d kind of like to know what’s going on in your soul
The kaleidoscopes
Slide whistles, and paper boats
Riding bikes
I’m a sucker for a downhill coast
Catching wind in my windbreaker
Say, would you like to come over and see my cardboard collection
I’ve been saving good bits for a really really really long time
I’m not sad, I’m just weepy with nostalgia
You know, we haven’t played with cardboard in a while
We could make a spaceship
Something geodesic
We could make a mobius strip
Ride around and around and around on it ‘til we get sick
We could read the lines from my box cutter
From that one manic summer, with the zines
We could make a really thick card for your mom
And do the puzzle on the back of a cereal box
Oh, the kaleidoscopes
Slide whistles, and paper boats
Riding bikes
Drawing pictures for that song we wrote
But
Woah
Don’t look at me like that
You know, we’re not 13 and I know what it means
And I know I don’t have something in my teeth
‘Cause I’ve been flossing every day, and now my gums don’t even bleed
And I know that you know that I know that we both know that
I get dressed in the dark
So
Hey- let’s go back to the show
Look, all our friends are dancing, and I don’t have to know
It’s just better if we left that alone
But you can help me pack my shit up when it’s time to go
home
