Patreon’s New And Less Improved Payment System

Hello all- it’s likely you’ve heard by now, either from Patreon or from other artists you support that Patreon is shaking things up with how they take pledges, in a more stupid fashion in my opinion.

Short version, in the old days you pledge a buck, and behind the scenes Patreon took its cut and passed 70 cents or so to me.

Now if you want to pledge a buck, Patreon is sticking that fee on top of your pledge. You want to throw in a buck, you get charged $1.30 or so and a buck goes to me.

...I think this is stupid, and I’ve yet to meet another artist or supporter who feels different. I want this whole thing to be as easy as a tip jar for you guys, and I don’t love that they’re steamrolling this change out. I’m perfectly happy with the service fees happening on my end so you don’t feel nickel and dimed, or have to change up who you support if you only have so much for Patreon money. I mean, I’m a supporter too, right? I get it.

For now though, there’s not much I can do to stymie the change. If you’re like me and you’re not pleased, let Patreon know, make a noise on social media, make a stink.

In the meantime... I want to thank everyone who supports me, at any amount. If some of you have to switch out levels or tag out after this I get it. For my part, I’ll continue to work hard to give everyone a good show at whatever level, because a month of fun art can still be yours for under the price of a candy bar.
