The next morning Ray left The Pokemon Centre with the first sun rays, Instead of going to the forest he went to the Pokemon battlefield behind the Pokemon Centre and released his starter Pokemon, Charmander.
With White Flash, the fire-type manifested in front of Ray.
"Char?" The fire type looked around, Ray approached the Lizard Pokemon.
"Hey Charmander, I am your new trainer, Let's work together from now on, what do you say?" Ray offered a handshake, the fire type smiled at him and accepted the handshake.
"Awesome! Now, why don't we get something to eat, before we go to hunt for more Pokemon to join us?" He asked the Lizard Pokemon with a grin.
The Fire-type quickly nodded at him, Ray then quickly pulled out another Pokeball.
"Right before that, let me introduce you to my friend…" Ray threw another Pokeball and Pidgey manifested from the white Flash.
"Pidgey!" the Tiny Bird Pokemon flew a circle around the Pokemon battlefield before landing on Ray's shoulder.
It extended its wing in a greeting manner and Charmander did one of his own.
'Good, both of them already becoming friends.' Ray nodded in satisfaction and gave both of them Pokemon food, Soon he would start to test which kind of flavour they liked but, he already knew the general direction of what these types of Pokemon were like.
After finishing their breakfast, Ray left towards the west side of Veridian City, There is a moderate-sized forest, nothing major like the one in the North which houses lots of bug types…
Once it was in his sight Ray could make out a few Pokemon in the trees like Mankey's and some bug types like Kakuna's and Weedle's some Caterpies and Metapods as well, but no Pokemon in their final form as they usually go to less populated areas and further from humans…
But none of these Pokemon was interesting to Ray, no he is focusing on the ground, not on the trees.
'The Mankeys are annoying, If I get close they might going to try to steal my stuff…' Ray thought with annoyance, as he walked around the trees where Mankey's were.
Sometime later he finally saw what he was looking for.
'There is a Nidoran, it's a female one, but it's a start.' Ray noticed a blue Nidoran eating berries.
If the blue one is here, then the purple one should not be far.
Ray pulled out his Charmander Pokeball and looked around, to his annoyance it was running…
He sighed and continued to look, after that, he spent an hour or so looking for a purple one.
Until he finally saw one, in a small clearing eating berries.
"Nidoran! I challenge you to fight!" Ray said loudly enough for the Pokemon to hear.
The Poison Pin Pokemon turned towards Ray, and the Pokemon showed a resolute face ready to fight, that is how the Pokemon world works, the best way to capture them is to ask for a fight or… as Ash does, befriend them, but that one has a downside as well, his Charizard is proof, he never fought his Charmander and he never was impressed by his trainer, which led to that period of rebellion.
The best is to fight it defeat it, and then capture it!
"Charmander let's go!" Ray threw his Charmander's Pokeball and soon enough his fire type started to manifest in front of him and facing Nidoran.
"Let's start with Ember!" Ray opened with the first attack, Charmander opened his mouth and released hot Embers at Nidoran.
The Poison-type awkwardly dodged to the side and started to run towards Charmander.
"Jump to the side Charmander!" Ray quickly ordered and Charmander complied moments later, barely dodging the incoming tackle.
"Ember once more!" This time the attack hit the Poison-type which sent it flying away.
"Not bad Charmander! This time try focusing your fire, instead of just releasing like that!" Hearing that the Fire-type nodded and tried once again.
The Poison Pin Pokemon barely had time to get back on its feet as the Pokemon heard what the opposing human just said.
Moments later more concentrated Ember smashed into the purple Pokemon…
Knocking it out.
Ray pulled out an empty Pokeball and threw it at the Nidoran.
The ball connected with the Pokemon and then sucked poison type inside, and with a few shakes the capture was a success…
Ray smiled for a second. "Great job Charmander! You are one step closer to learning Fire Spin!" Ray praised his starter while he walked towards his recent capture.
When he picked up the Poison-type Pokeball he pulled out his Pokedex and scanned it.
[Nidoran(male)]
[The Poison Pin Pokemon]
[Type: Poison]
[Ability: Poison Point]
[Gender: Male]
[Moves: Tackle, Leer, Peck]
As Ray suspected the Pokemon is quite young, not only that but its brash behaviour made him learn Tackle…
Nidoran doesn't usually learn Tackle, but that's a video game version if his memory serves him right.
And this world is not a video game, and that means that Pokemon have a chance to learn moves that they usually can't at least in video games, they can learn in this world, like Mach Punch, this quite simple kind of move is just a fast punch, regularly can only be learned by likes of Hitmonchan, Ledyba, Ledian, Breloom…
But Ray taught it to Nidoking in Professors Ranch, while it was quite hard and he needed a willing Nidoking, eventually, he did that.
Since Nidoking can do a Double Kick, which uses a fighting type of energy, first he needed to send that energy from the Pokemon's legs to its hands and then make it move fast like really fast.
Even so, the Drill Pokemon learned several other moves along the way like Mega Punch and Brick Break…
It was quite a learning experience for the Pokemon and Ray.
"Thanks for your help Charmander Now rest," Ray recalled his start and then started to walk toward Veridian City.
~~~
After returning to Pokemon Centre Ray handed over his new Nidoran to Nurse Joy and went over to eat and check Pokemon Ranger Data Banks on Veridian Forest.
To his disappointment Scyther swarm is not even in this area, meaning that the only Pokemon he can catch in this forest is either the Caterpie line, Weedle line or Pidgey evolutionary line, There should be some Spearows as well, but they focused on Route 1 forest instead.
'Since nothing is interesting in that forest I should use that time to train my Pokemon… hmm.' He then looked at environmental data in the forest and he found that this area has some freshwater streams.
'Maybe some Water types?' He thought seriously, his first gym IS after all Rock-type, He IS planning to teach Steel Type moves to his Starter and Pidgey and teach Double Kick to Nidoran, but even then his opponent is Onix.
'I need more firepower, Onix's size alone gives him a massive advantage unless my Pokemon can get close to his face…' Ray grimaced for a second and decided to arrive at Pewter City as quickly as possible and then train over there and maybe get a Rock-Type of his own or a Water-Type.
After coming up with a short-term plan Ray left the Pokemon Centre after collecting his Nidoran.
Once he was in the forest he used some Pokemon Repels, which allowed him to traverse the forest at a quick pace…
But as they say, no matter how much you plan, no plan is fault-proof.
"Alright, why are you wearing samurai armour in the middle of a forest?" Ray asked with an exaggerated look towards a 'sneaky' guy who tried to sneak attack him.
"Aha! Your senses are extraordinary! How did you know I trying to sneak attack you!?" The kid who looked around fourteenish asked with over the top impressed voice.
'Oh, Arceus this kid has that eighth-grade syndrome!?' Ray thought with a sweatdrop.
"You are wearing a freaking samurai armour how are expecting not to make any sound?!" But Ray's answer was ignored by the Samurai armour-wearing cosplayer.
"Well, it doesn't matter! Even if you want to hide your secrets! As I am challenging you to a Pokemon battle!" The Kid said while making exaggerated hand movements…
'Why I am the one who has to deal with weirdos!?' Ray sighed internally.
"Fine… do you know I place where we can have our Battle?" At least he can get some target practice from this…
"Haha follow me and I will show you!" Once again Ray sighed again after hearing that, and followed the cosplayer kid…
Less than five minutes later they found themselves in a small clearing in the middle of a forest.
Both of them took some distance from each other.
"I will go first! Let's go Pinsir!" The Samurai kid sends out his first Pokemon which is a Pure Bug Type.
Ray unclipped his Pidgey Pokeball and then threw it, "Let's go Pidgey!".
Moments later Tiny Bird Pokemon manifested in the air.
"I will go first! Pinsir use your Vice Grip!" The Stag Bettle Pokemon started rushing towards Pidgey.
With a sigh, Ray ordered his attack as well.
"Pidgey just use your Aerial Ace and get this over with…" Tiny Bird Pokemon nodded and with a backflip the Flying-type accelerated into an incoming Bug-Type, The attack was super effective which sent Pinsir flying away.
"W-What was that attack just now?" The Cosplayer asked with a shaky voice, he had never seen a flying-type attack so fast before!
While Ray was somewhat impressed that Pinsir was able to take that move, well 'take it' is a strong word as the Bug-Type is one leg away from passing out.
"End this Pidgey with Quick Attack!" The Flying Type quickly nodded and vanished with extreme speed and rammed into Pinsir knocking the Stag Bettle Pokemon.
The Cosplayer only stared at this with a wide mouth, his Pokemon was just two-shot'ed by a small Flying Type Pokemon!
"What you just saw was 'Aerial Ace' a flying type move which can only be learned by fast-flying type Pokemon… mostly," Ray explained… Somewhat to the cosplayer kid, not that he is in a mood to explain to this moron.
"Haha, I see you are quite a good trainer, are you?! But I still have one more Pokemon!" The Samurai armour-dressed kid recalled his downed Pinsir and threw another Pokeball and… a Metapod manifested on the ground, Ray's shoulders only sunk after seeing his new opponent.
'You got to be kidding me… I WOULD take this seriously IF it's a proper trainer… but this…'
"Pidgey return, let's give my other Pokemon a turn," Ray recalled his Flying-Type and threw another Pokeball.
With a flash his started manifesting in front of Ray, the Cosplaying Samurai slightly flinched when he saw his new opponent.
"Since you won the last one I will start first! Metapod use HARDEN!" His Bug-Type glowed for a second and Ray just sighed again seeing what kind of attack the cosplayer just ordered, while his Charmander raised his eyebrow seeing what the Bug-Type just used.
"Use Ember Charmander," Ray said with a bored voice, he wants this… battle to be over with.
The Fire-Type opened his mouth and unleashed a barrage of Embers at the Cacoon Pokemon… knocking the Bug-Type with a single attack.
"Well, do you have any more Pokemon?" Ray asked with a bored tone.
The Samurai Kid just recalled his Metapod.
"No! But this was a battle for ages! I will train harder than ever before and then I will have my rematch!" The Kid said that in an exaggerated manner worthy of a cosplayer.
"I see, may I know where you got your Pinsir?" Ray just went along, completely ignoring his cosplaying antics.
"Oh, that? My dad got it as a starter for me, he got it from Pokemon Safari in Fuchsia City." The Samurai Kid proudly said to Ray.
"I see, anyway I have to go," Ray recalled his Starter and started to walk towards Pewter City.
"Alright! See you later my rival! I will return to my training as well!" The Cosplayer said quite loudly which made Ray flinch.
Ray quickly turned around and hissed at him.
"Be quiet you idiot! Do you want to annoy the Beedrills in this area?" He said with a low hissing voice, The Samurai kid quickly closed his mouth.
"Anyway there are more trainers like me coming from the same city as I am, you should battle them as well," Ray said with a slight smirk on his face.
'Hopefully, this moron will forget about me and focus on someone like Gary or Ash…'
The Cosplayer's eyes shined for a second.
"Great that means there is a chance for me to regain my honour! I should get my sword for this occasion!" The Samurai Kid quickly forgot about Ray as he quickly started to run somewhere.
'Thank Arceus I lost him!'
Ray took a deep breath and started to leave with quick steps.
