Chapter 3

Finding a place to sleep was not hard in this forest, Viridian forest is largely used by trainers.

While it's largely wild, the forest still has places for trainers to camp, and for Ray who has his Pokenav it's even easier, he even knows where to find a freshwater stream.

By tomorrow Ray should be in Pewter City, so he will be sleeping in this Bug-infested forest for one day only.

After setting his camp Ray called out his three Pokemon.

This is the first time he called out his newly captured Nidoran.

"Nido?" The Poison Pin Pokemon looked around with a confused look, he then noticed Ray standing in front of him and another two Pokemon standing next to him, it didn't take a genius to understand what happened… he lost and he ended up being caught.

"Nidoran my name is Ray, and I am a Pokemon trainer. My goal is to become the best there is, and I would like to ask you to help in this, In return I will train you and you will be a strong Nidoking, I already have experience in training one," Ray explained to the Poison-Type Pokemon.

The Poison Pin Pokemon nodded, he wanted to be strong, and his trainer already proved himself capable, since he already defeated him with two attacks.

"Good!" Ray looked at his Pokemon." Let's start with training! Our first gym is a Rock-Type one, which means we are at a disadvantage, and we will need to train hard to defeat this Gym Leader!" His Pokemon got pumped hearing about training.

"Right, first things first! Charmander we will start with the Metal Claw move, It's a Steel-Type move which will be effective against Rock-Type All you need to do is concentrate on your claws and channel your energy into it, Instead of fire think how indestructible your claws are." Ray explained to his starter.

While the Pokemon understood most of it, he was still somewhat confused about certain parts, not that Ray thought his Pokemon understood everything that takes time and Pokemon understand much better once they are at a practical stage not a theoretical one, that area of expertise belongs to Pokemon Trainer.

Ray then looked at this Flying-Type His Pidgey already is an experienced Pokemon when it comes to being trained by Ray, after all, it learned several moves from him, like Agility, Quick Attack, and his most used one Aerial Ace.

"Right Pidgey, the next move for you to learn is Steel Wing, Just as I was explaining to Charmander, you will need to channel your energy into your wings and then smash it, instead of the regular energy you use with Aerial Ace this one is all about indestructible and then you just smash it into your opponent!" Ray explained to Tiny Bird Pokemon, Steel Type is all about defence, there are of course some Pokemon are exempted from that, like Metagross…

"And you Nidoran I will teach you a Fighting-Type move which is called Double Kick, For that you will need to use our hind legs."

After explaining the moves Ray started to show them how to do it, for Charmander he found a boulder to constantly strike with its claws, while for Pidgey he added extra weight on its wings, while for Nidoran it was all out using his hind legs.

The whole training lasted close to a few hours and while they didn't learn the moves he wanted them to learn they learned something from this anyway…

Pidgey learned Wing Attack and Charmander learned Fire Punch.

What shocked Ray was of course Charmander's Fire Punch move, he knew his starter was quite a spirited one, but Fire Punch this early in the journey?

'Well he has the 'Spirit' part down, now he needs proper directions…' Ray thought to himself as he prepared some food for his Pokemon.

~~~~~~Next Morning~~~~~~
The next early morning Ray was washing face in a freshwater stream when he heard a noise of someone fighting against water current.
That of course got his attention and he quickly walked over there to see who or what it was.
After taking a couple of steps Ray was a certain Pokemon which brought a smile to his face.
While this Pokemon is utterly useless in its first form it's a complete monster when it evolves.
What Ray saw was of course Magikarp fighting water current, that alone showed to him that this Pokemon is a fighter.
'Well… let's see…' Ray pulled out an empty Pokeball and threw it at the water-type Pokemon.
The ball landed right on the Pokemon side and quickly sucked the Fish Pokemon inside after several quick shakes the ball calmed down and with a loud *ding* it indicate a successful capture.
And since the water current was moving towards him the Pokeball floated towards him.
Once it was in Ray's hands he pulled out his Pokedex and did a quick scan on the Pokemon.
[Magikarp]
[Fish Pokemon]
[Type: Water]
[Ability: Swift Swim]
[Gender: Male]
[Moves: Splash]
'Yes, as expected…' Ray simply pocketed the Pokeball after checking the Pokedex and then returned to his camp.
After collecting all the stuff he started to walk towards Pewter City.
~~~

By midday, he finally exited the forest and in the distance, he saw a City, the city famous for its Rock-Types.

But Ray's attention was on the man city by the road, he was selling… rocks…

Ray slowly approached the individual.

"You must be local, correct?" Ray asked the middle-aged man who he knows is the current Gym Leader's father.

"I am. You must be here to challenge Brock to a gym battle correct?" The man said with a knowing look.

"Yes, but not now, I need to train first, Do you know where I can find some Rock-Type Pokemon?" When the middle-aged man heard the question he was somewhat taken aback, usually he deals with over-excited and over-confident kids who don't know their limits, but this one… he at least is using his head…

"I do, but that will be 10 dollars." The man extended his hand, motioning to pay up.

Ray didn't bother arguing he simply pulled out his wall which is quite heavy from money and gave him a 10-pole dollar note.

The man quickly pocketed it and with his finger motioned to the west side of the city.

"The plains over there usually have some Rhyhorns, and see those mountains over there? Those have Geodudes and if you are lucky enough you might see Onix or two." The middle-aged man explained to Ray.

"Thanks, I will explore the place tomorrow." Ray thanked me for the information and started walking towards the Pokemon Centre.

The Pokemon Centre was not far from the road he came from, just like in the video game the building had a red roof and the Pokeball symbol.

Once inside Nurse Joy noticed him approaching, her eyes widened for a second before she smiled at him.

"Good day to you Ray, I have heard from my sister that you have started your journey, I have not expected you to arrive so early! So, how may I help you?" The nurse asked with a smile.

"Hello to you as well Nurse Joy, can you check my Pokemon I want to book a room for a few days." Ray handed over his four Pokeballs.

She took his four minimised pokeballs and handed them over to her Pokemon Chansey, who went over to have a quick check with the machines they have in the back, he does love the technology of this world, it's so convenient.

"Of course, I will need your Pokedex for that." Hearing her request Ray gave her his Pokedex and a few moments later he got his keys to the room.

After having a shower, change of clothes, and quick dinner Ray walked behind the Pokemon Centre where several battlegrounds are, he saw several Pokemon trainers training their Pokemons, Most of them were newbies like him but there were a few older trainers with more developed Pokemon.

After walking for a few moments he found himself a corner and summoned his three Pokemons.

"For today we will practising a move which I want all of my Pokemon to know, It's called Protect." Ray started with his explanation.

"Once again it's all about intent, Think about how you wish to protect yourself and then just release it into the form of a barrier, For this make sure it's all about protection, not other feelings!" Ray motioned for his Pokemon to try.

The most obvious failure was his Nidoran who is brash and barely can stick in one place.

"Right it seems it will be quite hard for you, why don't you tire yourself first while practising Double Kick?" Nidoran quickly nodded at Ray when he heard that he quickly walked over to the side and started practising calling forth his Fighting-Type energy into his hind legs.

Around an hour later Ray decided to see if his Pokemon were closer to learning the defensive skill.

"I think we should try it now, Pidgey I want you to attack Charmander with your Wing Attack while you try to use Protect," Ray ordered his Pokemon.

His Pokemon quickly went to their position, Pidgey went up high into the air and then started to descend into Charmander with glowing wings.

"Charmander cross your arms and imagine an absolute defensive barrier around you! And then just release your energy believe in your instincts!" Ray instructed his Pokemon, The Fire-Type just roared and a green barrier appeared around him but then it just vanished as soon as it appeared and Pidgey rammed one of his wings into the Lizard Pokemon.

The Fire Pokemon skidded back leaving a trail on the ground, gnashing its teeth from pain.

"You were close Charmander! Don't stop channelling that energy, Pidgey use your Wing Attack again!" Ray ordered his flying type again.

Tiny Bird Pokemon went up for another circle and then started to descend into Charmander with glowing wings.

"Charmander use Protect!" Moments later green barrier appeared around Charmander and Pidgey was sent away once the Flying-type hit the barrier, When Ray saw it he smirked for a second.

"Nice going Charmander!" He quickly walked to his started Pokemon and patted his head, the Lizard Pokemon puffed his chest proudly for a second.

"Now why don't you explain to Pidgey how you did it?" Ray asked his starter who quickly nodded at his trainer and started to explain the move to just landed Pidgey.

Not long after that Pidgey was ready to try as well.

" Right then, Charmander use Ember!" Ray ordered his Starter, then he looked at Pidgey. "And you Pidgey use Protect!"

Charmander opened his mouth and unleashed a barrage of hot embers at Tiny Bird Pokemon who just closed his eyes and awaited the arrival of the attack, At the very last second he opened his eyes and a green barrier appeared around the Flying-Type.

Ray just whistled seeing that! His Pidgey got it down on the first try!

Not long after that, Ray went to check on his Nidoran and he found out that his Poison Pin Pokemon got it down with flare.

"Not bad buddy! Now why don't you come with me and Pidgey with Charmander will show you how to use Protect." Ray motioned for the purple Pokemon to follow him.

"Right, you guys explain to Nidoran how to use Protect." Once again Charmander and Pidgey started to explain to the Poison Pin Pokemon how to use the move.

Ray could only grin at their conversation, this is one of the methods he picked up in the ranch, Pokemon are natural at practical methods, meaning they learn fast in the heat of battle, and who is better at explaining that part of it if not the Pokemon itself? He already did his part, now it's for his Pokemon to learn it.

"Well, Nidoran are you ready for a test?" The Pokemon in question quickly nodded at him.

"Good! Then Pidgey use Wing Attack! And Nidoran use Protect!" Ray ordered his Pokemon.
