Chapter 8

"Butterfree no!" The Butterfly Pokemon dropped to the ground in a frozen state, his trainer rushed to the Pokemon's side.

Both Misty and Ray facepalmed seeing that.

"Ash, you should return your Pokemon to its ball the moment something like this happens. The Pokeballs were created with this purpose in mind," Ray explained to his neighbour.

"It's exactly as he said you doofus! The Pokemon Inside the ball is put into stasis," Misty said with an eye roll, Did this kid sleep through his classes?

"R-Right! Butterfree return!" Ash pointed his Pokeball and recalled his Pokemon.

"Well, ready to give up?" Ray asked with a raised eyebrow.

"As if! Pidgeotto I choose you!" Ash threw another Pokeball and released his flyer, an evolved form of Pidgey.

Ray looked at the bird. Now that he lives in this world and sees multiple different Pidgey line Pokemon he can easily tell the difference between them and how well they are taken care of.

Or in this case, just by a single glance, he can tell that this one was forced to evolve too early because of its circumstances, and it's a female too.

"Very well, since you insist." A sigh escaped from Ray's lips as he focused on battle once more.

"Rhyhorn use Ice Beam," Ray ordered his Ground/Rock Pokemon to attack.

The Spikes Pokemon opened his mouth and an orb of light blue energy formed before being released like a beam into the Flying/Normal-type Pokemon.

"Quick, Pidgeotto dodge with Agility, then use Quick Attack to accelerate into Rhyhorn and use Wing Attack!"

Ray's eyes slightly widened, this was his combo!

The Bird Pokemon did just exactly that, as she dodged the beam and then accelerated into Rhyhorn with her glowing wing.

Except the trainer of the Spikes Pokemon snorted at this combo for the simple reason that it's a Flying-type move that is being used…

A grin slowly appeared on his face, it was time to teach this kid a lesson!

The move smashed into Ground/Rock rhino who was slightly pushed back, yet he barely felt anything from his attack!

"Yes! It was a direct hit!" Ash said with a grin, which quickly disappeared when he saw that there was barely any damage!

"You do realise that Flying-type moves barely affect Rock types?" Ray asked with a raised eyebrow, yet here he was giving him props for copying his combo but those points disappeared as soon as they appeared for using a Flying-type move on Rock-type.

"We shall see! Pidgeotto once more!"

Ray, Misty and even Rhyhorn raised their eyebrows after hearing that.

Does he expect this time it will be different just because the Bird Pokemon will build up more momentum?

'I hope he grows up soon, this is just tragic, I hope by the time Hoenn and Sinnoh he will be a better trainer since we do grow up in this world…'

That's what Ray has noticed, he was quite terrified of being 10 forever thankful he found soon enough that people do mature.

'Time for wake up call…'

"Rhyhorn the moment Pidgeotto is close get on your hind legs and use Stomp!"

Rhyhorn quite easily understood what his trainer wanted from him, and that it was… stomping!

The Ground/Rock type got on his hind legs just before the Bird Pokemon smashed into him.

Ash's eyes went wide this was not good!

"Quick Pidgeotto! dodge!" The Pallet native with a panicked voice ordered but it was too late as the Spikes Pokemon's front legs went down with a massive amount of force thanks to its weight.

*BOOM*

Quite a bit of dust erupted from the smash as everyone heard a painful screech of the Flying/Normal-type Pokemon.

A few moments later Rhyhorn left the dust cloud and walked in front of his trainer waiting for the next orders.

Once the dust cloud settled everyone could see the knocked-out form of Pidgeotto.

"Pidgeotto!" Ash was about to rush to his Pokemon but he remembered what Misty ans Ray just said and quickly recalled his Flyer.

*Sigh*

Ray sighed at his neighbour he crossed his hand and started talking.

"Copying my tactics is a smart move, but your execution was bad.

First, our Pokemon sizes were nearly identical, my method would only work when one used a small Pokemon on a big one.

And second, is that your Pokemon did not build up its speed, my Pidgey faced Geodude before moving on to face Onix.

It used more than five agility moves before facing Onix."

Ray explained to him the difference with quite a bored voice since it was basics among basics...

"So, still want to continue? You only have one Pokemon left."

Ash gnashed his teeth for a second, he started the same day as Ray! Yet, this guy is destroying him like it's nothing!

Well, he still has his starter!

"We are not out yet! We can at least take down your Rhyhorn! Let's go Pikachu!"

The Mouse Pokemon rushed into the battlefield.

The yellow rodent's cheeks sparkled it was pumped up, Ray grimaced seeing that, if only Ash was smarter he could have brought out all that fire the little mouse had.

"Right… if you say so."

"Let's start with Thunderbolt!" Ash said with exaggerated hand motion, he has full confidence in the new move his starter has learned, and pity that he is using it against the wrong opponent.

"Charge Rhyhorn, and use Headbutt." Hearing such order was like music to the Ground/Rock type. The Spikes Pokemon charged with the maximum speed possible to him.

Right at the incoming electrical attack, Ash grinned for a second seeing that, only for the grin to disappear when Rhyhorn simply charged through it without any damage whatsoever!

"Pikachu stop your attack and dodge to the side!" Ash once again with a panicked voice ordered, but Rhyhorn was like a train that builds up steam, he charged in and smashed into the Mouse Pokemon.

Sending him flying like a ragdoll.

"Pikachu!!!" Ash quickly rushed to see his partner who was out cold.

Ray could only sigh, seeing that he knocked out all of Ash's team members with a single attack that was just sad and pathetic.

"And so, I win." He said with a bored voice, he is not happy with this victory at all.

"Of course you do, unlike the doofus over there, you are prepared," Misty said with a loud sigh as she walked over to him, she Was bored just as he was.

All she saw was a one-sided beatdown.

The junior Professor nodded at her before recalling Rhyhorn into his Pokeball he then started to walk towards Ash.

"Knowing the types is half of the battle Ash. You should take your Pokemon to Nurse Joy."

Hearing his advice the Pallet Native rushed to the Pokemon Centre while carrying his knocked-out cold Pikachu.

"How much do you think he will take the advice into his heart?" Ray asked the Cerulean Gym Leader next to him.

"No idea, he is quite an airhead, probably will forget next time you see him," Misty said with a shrug, She had no confidence in the boy.

"Not going to bet on that. Anyway, I have a call to make, see you later." He waved his hand at her before going towards the Pokemon centre.

The girl sighed hearing that, she was going the same way! Is he trying to get rid of her!?

~~~
After Ray entered the Pokemon Centre he went to call Professor over the videophone.
"Congratulations are in order Ray my boy! Your Charmander and Nidoran evolved less than a week into your journey!" Professor Oak said with a happy voice.
"Now that I think about…" The old man mumbled it under his breath before he started typing something on his keyboard.
Ray waited a few moments as he heard the sound of keyboard buttons being pressed.
"Aha! Knew it! You are the third-fastest ever to evolve its Fire-type starter in less than a week! Four days to be exact!
And first to do so with Kanto Fire Starter." The man said while his hand was on his chin.
"Fascinating…"
"I see, and who are the number two and one?" Ray curiously asked he never checked records, he never knew it was such big stuff...
Then again the show followed Ash of all things… So, it's not a surprise…
"First place goes to a trainer in Hoenn whose Torchic evolved second day of starting its journey, The little chick Pokemon wanted to learn punching moves," Professor explained quite casually.
One of Ray's eyebrows went up when he heard that.
'Okay...Shonen stuff… no wonder, I do live in Japanese created world now…'
"So heavy emotions and desire…" The Junior Professor said with a thoughtful look.
"It leans towards that, yes. Your Magicarp guidebook is just an example of what you wrote there, in a way it proves that Magicarp can evolve the very same moment it gets extremely angry." Professor Oak sighed while saying that, Ray could hear some disappointment in his voice.
"Sad to say but, we were able to confirm what you wrote. Several trainers even lost their lives while others lost their license for Pokemon mistreatment." The old man said with a disappointed voice.
While Ray slowly nodded hearing that, nothing new there. People thought that reading a little bit from his book would allow him to raise Gyarados easily.
What a bunch of idiots…
Especially if they start flipping cuz Magicarp doesn't evolve...
"I see…"
"The second one is a similar case only in Sinnoh."
"Chimchar?"
"Yes, wanted to learn Fire Punch Instead it ended up evolving and learning Mach Punch in the process." Professor Oak said with a chuckle.
The Junior Professor shook his head in amusement.
"Quite relatable, Charmander learned Fire Punch instead of Metal Claw, I was quite surprised too," Ray said with a knowing look. The Professor on the other end of the screen nodded at him.
"Indeed, nonetheless, those were special circumstances, unlike yours. So congratulations." The old man congratulated him, and he then snapped his fingers remembering something.
"Oh, do remember to check your trainer account on Global Trading System. Quite crafty if I do say so." There was a smirk on Professor's face when he said that, Ray scratched the back of his head from embarrassment, it seemed Professor had figured out his scheme, nonetheless, his interest was peaked he did wonder how many offers appeared on his trade offers, not much time passed after all!
"I will Professor, I will transfer the Pokeballs first."
"Of course! I will be waiting for them."
Ray nodded and started sending over the grey Pokeballs to Professor.
A few moments later he got confirmation that the transfer was a success.
"I have received them."
"Okay! I will speak with you later Professor." Ray said that as he was itching to see his Trainer account.
"Take care Ray my boy, and do call if anything interesting pop-up."
"Of course!"
The Junior Professor finished his call and went over to take a seat in the lounge area.
He pulled out his laptop and connected to Wi-Fi, he quickly accessed the web page of Global Trading System and logged in with his account.
The very next moment his eyes bulged out seeing the number of notifications.
"Holy Arceus! Over 400+ notifications!" Ray squeaked seeing the number drawn inside a Pokeball picture.
He opened his trade offers and saw a massive list of offers.
'I truly underestimated my popularity.' Ray thought to himself as he saw over a hundred offers for a Trapinch and Aron…
He then went to other offers where people offered different Pokemon, not the ones he wanted.
Ray scrolled through the offers until he saw something interesting!
"Damn! Someone offering a Pawniard!?" He exclaimed, before checking out the details.
From the moves, he can see the Pokemon is barely trained.
He can guess that the trainer decided to switch to a faster way of getting stronger Steel-Type.
Steelix is a defensive behemoth, while one needs to spend some time training Pawniard so that he can evolve into Bisharp.
Even then Bisharp is an offensive Steel type, unlike Steelix…
Ray didn't need to think much about this as he accepted the offer and then went back to check the Trapinch offers.
Flygon is one of his favourite Pokemon from Gen III and if possible he wants to start training for one early.
'Yes, this looks like a great deal.' He quickly decided on a Trapinch and started writing an email to Professor about the trade.
By the time he is in Cerulean, he will have two exotic Pokemon!
