Pokemon SI

Chapter 10

Travelling on top of Onix's head was quite an experience. It didn't matter if there were stones in the way or if it was an uphill climb.

The Rock Snake Pokemon simply crossed it.

And the best part was that they were not travelling on a normal route.

Meaning there are a bunch of Pokemon popping from time to time!

Allowing more battling experience for some of his Pokemon.

Ray was keeping his Pidgeotto on hand in case he needed a pair of eyes in the sky, and if he encountered a fighting type, his rock-types would be in a load of pain if that was to happen.

Still, none of that happened, and the majority of enemies he encountered so far were Pokemon from the Geodude line.

None of them were Golems only Gravelers and Geodudes.

Seeing a Golem in the wild is rare, very rare unless you are in Mount Silver or somewhere far away from civilisation.

Nonetheless, Gravelers were a good fighting experience for Ray's Rhyhorn, Charmeleon and Nidorino.

The battle was not short either, as the movesets apart from a few selected moves only delt half of the damage because of the typing.

While battles were longer, it was a good fighting experience and his Pokemon tried harder to deal more damage.

It was all good, by midday most of his Pokemons were tired, either from travelling or fighting so a short break followed.

Ray with a huge smile feeds his Pokemon with his specially prepared food, after such prolonged battles and fighting evolved Pokemon, it gives his Pokemon the best type of experience.

He noticed that after fighting Onix and other 'difficult' Pokemon, since this world is based on a game, Gravelers give a ton load of exp points!

While there are no exp bars or anything like that, Ray can see the effects on his Pokemon as it is!

More tuned muscles for Nidorino, hotter flames from Charmeleon, and better response time from Rhyhorn indicate that they are getting 'exp points' and regular training only intensifies the gain of these 'points'.

After eating and resting, Ray was back on Onix as they travelled towards the peak of the mountain, the winds got harsher and the coldness increased, thankfully, the Junior Professor was ready for such a small nuisance.

He was more interested in the challenges he was receiving from wild Pokemon.

Eventually, the Pallet native crossed the peak of Mount Moon, but he didn't find any Pokemon worthwhile.

The mountain is infested with Geodude's line of Pokemon and the occasional Sandshrew which runs away the moment they see massive Rock Snake Pokemon slithering through the mountainside.

Not even once did Ray see an Onix or Rhyhorn. Those Pokemon live in more distinctive places.

Rhyhorn love the flat ground-like environment while Onix love their caves.

If one sees an Onix outside a cave it usually leads to a plot worthy of an 'episode'.

Nonetheless, there are some anomalies…

"Stop! That cave over there!" Ray ordered his Onix to stop, the Junior Professor quickly got down from the Rock/Ground Pokemon head and went over to inspect the cave.

First, he checked out the boulders, the rock formations had been damaged, not by a sharp horn or some rock plate but from punches…

"This… these marks are remnants of a fighting-type Pokemon." Ray softly said that to himself, his gaze lingered on the punching and kicking marks on the boulder for a short time before he looked around for more.

The Junior Professor didn't waste much time and called out his Nidorino.

Fighting types can be aggressive, depending on species they can attack without warning like Primeape.

"Stay on guard there can be a Fighting-type Pokemon here," Ray warned his Poison-type, this instantly made Nidorino look around there was some excitement in the Poison Pin Pokemon's eyes.

A challenge!

While the Pokemon's trainer only rolled his eyes before continuing with his inspection.

He checked out more boulders and the cave itself, Ray progressed slowly making sure no angry Pokemon jumped out of nowhere and punched him in the face.

In the end, the cave was empty, but the Junior Professor was able to figure out what Pokemon it was from the punching and kicking marks on the walls.

Kanto doesn't have many fighting types, in general, and there are even fewer which use both kicking and punching at the same time.

And the sizes of the fist's marks prove his theory.

So, Ray pulled out his Pidgeotto's Pokeball and threw it, moments later his flyer manifested in a burst of white light.

Without saying anything Ray pulled out his Pokedex and with the quick search function, he found the Fighting-type he was looking for.

"Pidgeotto can you fly around this area and see if this Pokemon is around?" The Junior Professor asked as he showed the picture.

[Tyrogue, the Scuffle Pokémon. Tyrogue evolved either into Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan or Hitmontop, depending on its focused fighting style. It has a small but very energetic body.]

The Flying/Normal Pokemon nodded at his trainer and with a few beats of his wings, the Bird flew up and started to look around.

"Why don't we get something quick to eat?" Ray said that as he looked at Nidorino.

The Poison Pin Pokemon quickly nodded at him. The Poison-type had a look that say that it's absolutely, a great idea!

Ray rolled his eyes at the overexcited Nidorino, nonetheless, it was contagious and the Junior Professor was excited about the prospect of getting his hands on Tyrogue!

~~~~~~Later~~~~~~
Close to twenty minutes later Pidgeotto flew back, the flyer found not a single trace of the Fighting-type.
It was quite disappointing, but not unexpected.
The Tyrogue is a notorious species for not sticking around in a single place unless, of course, it's under a Pokemon trainer.
Otherwise, they behave like some wandering fighters going from mountain to mountain, training, and challenging other Pokemon.
After finishing eating Ray continued his journey towards Cerulean City.
Just because the Junior Professor had crossed the peak and was on the other side of Mount Moon, the types of Pokemon didn't change.
Geodude line Pokemon were all over the place and by this point, Ray's Pokemon developed a quick way to deal with these Rock/Ground types.
While the likes of Sandshrew would just run away, these Mouse Pokemon dwelled close to small caves dug out by the likes of Geodude Line Pokemon.
Ray did check a cave or two in hopes of finding a Moon Stone and maybe, hopefully, something like a Mega Stone.
Not that he was lucky, all he found was Zubats and Sandshrews…
Nothing of value, not even a nugget… well, this is not a Pokemon game in the first place, where he could walk from house to house and look for stuff…
After checking another small cave Ray continued his descent from the mountain, going down was faster than going up and there were fewer Gravellers and Geodudes as he was going lower.
And he was somewhat rushing as well since he already could see Cerulean City in the distance.
Unlike Pewter City Cerulean looked much more vibrant and colourful, the water next to it only made it look more beautiful.
The most striking feature is that it has several skyscrapers like Veridian City, and of course the size, it was bigger than Pewter or Viridian even if Viridian had more skyscrapers, probably Giovanni and Team Rocket doing with those.
The Rocket boss is trying to attract more people to the city, more people means rarer Pokemon come to visit.
Nonetheless, Team Rocket is not Ray's business he can leave that to the 'Chosen One'.
~~~

"Hello, Professor."

"Ah, Ray my boy! You finally reached Cerulean? Good, Good! You are in front, both Gary and Ash are still crossing Mount Moon." The aged Professor happily said that.

The Kanto Professor is excited by this. Simply because Ray even if he doesn't want to, is still making both Ash and Gary take Pokemon training more seriously.

Both Pallet natives are chasing after Ray's shadow, while same time trying to beat each other up with their Pokemon.

All in all, it's a competition in which the Professor will benefit the most.

"Really? I wasted some time in Pewter. I thought Gary took the lead by this point." Ray said with slight disbelief.

Not that Junior Professor cares about the 'race'. A race which supposed to be about who is first to get the badges and amount of Pokemon one has.

"So did Gary. The boy is capturing a lot of Pokemons. At this moment he has over 20 of them." Professor Oak said with a tired sigh. The old man simply knows that Gary won't have time to train all of them or even use them in battle.

The boy could learn a lesson or two from Ray and simply put those Pokemons for trade.

"So, he is capturing the same species several times over." The younger Professor said with a knowing look.

"Indeed he does, he has at least three Rattatas, two Weedles, a Kakuna and a Beedrill…" The old man mentioned from the top of his head.

Ray blinked a couple of times hearing that, why would you capture four Pokemons of the same species? While the Junior Professor did it himself with Onix, there was a higher purpose for those, he wanted a specific Onix and he WAS planning to trade other ones!

But, Gary? He doesn't have any plans for the looks of it!

It's like he is going to raise several Beedrills and then just going to pick the best one and keep on using it while leaving the others to rot.

Such a method is not bad but not good either, it is more… wasteful in Ray's eyes at least…

"It's quite a wasteful method, I can see what he is planning to do. But, then again maybe he will learn himself that it doesn't work."

Professor Oak slowly nodded hearing that, hopefully, this will only happen once, and maybe it will help Gary mature.

A swift defeat in the Indigo Plateau will be a good wake-up call.

"While on the other end, Ash only has 3 Pokemon, making you Ray my boy in the middle with 8 Pokemon," Professor said with a bright smile. Oh, he was a happy man with a Pokemon from Unova and Hoenn!

Not many of his trainers leave the region or continue to be trainers under him, the sponsorship ends when they stop being Pokemon trainers and pursue some other ventures not related to the Pokemon Leagues.

"I guess I am the perfect middle." The Junior Professor shrugged before continuing to talk." Anyway. Professor, I need to meet my new teammates, I will be sending over Magicarp and Onix, both of them know what to do, all I need for you to do is give a rubber ball to Magicarp."

"Ah, yes! You mentioned that in your email, I get one for him." The Kanto Professor nodded happily before commenting on it. " What an interesting way to teach Magicarp the only other moves he can learn." The old man had an intrigued look when he said, he was wondering how many other people started training their Magicarp seriously after Ray released his book on those fishes.

The Leagues battle should be more interesting with more Gyarados in trainer's rosters…

'I should send a notice to the league that they should improve the drainage systems there.'

"This is nothing, I have more methods for training for my Magicarp but those can wait, I want to meet my new teammates, Professor, I have Pokeballs ready for transfer," Ray said as he showed the shrunken Pokeballs between his fingers.

"Very well, I am ready to receive them."
