Ray with a smirk looked at the two Pokemons standing in front of him, he pulled out his Pokedex and scanned them.
The Junior Professor simply knows this is going to be glorious, to use non-native Pokemons on the battlefield is always a good method to shock the opponent, especially in Pokemon League battles.
[Pawniard]
[Sharp Blade Pokemon]
[Type: Dark/Steel]
[Ability: Defiant]
[Gender: Male]
[Moves: Scratch, Leer, Fury Cutter, Metal Claw]
'This looks good, Kanto has no pure physical offensive Steel-types, now I need Pawniard to pick up some variety and we will be good to go.'
'As far as my memory takes me, Pawniard can only learn physical moves naturally, which means I will need some T.M. to introduce different types of energies to my little friend here.' Ray thought about this as he looked at the Dark/Steel Pokemon who was just looking at his new trainer with a curious gaze.
All Ray could think about was how… deadly the Pokemon looked, with all those sharp edges, it was pretty much a living weapon.
After that, he pointed his Pokedex at the other Pokemon of his team.
[Trapinch]
[The Ant Pit Pokemon]
[Type: Ground]
[Ability: Hyper Cutter]
[Gender: Male]
[Moves: Sand-Attack, Bite, Dig]
'And then there is Trapinch, this Pokemon evolution line is even more difficult to raise than regular dragons.'
'Seeing a wild Trapinch in the desert? That easy! Seeing Vibrava in the desert? That's very rare, and Flygon? That's Impossible.'
'Flygon is called the Mystic Pokemon for a reason, and you will see one only under a trainer, as wild ones are so rare that it considered the stuff of myths.'
'It's easier to see a Pseudo-Legendary in some sort of reserve than Flygon in a desert.'
'That's just how difficult it is, the only 'sighting' one could ever see, is in truth the buzzing sounds of their wings in a sandstorm. Not even the visual sight but the sound.'
'Yet, all that first and utmost has to be raised from this Ant Pit Pokemon.' Ray thought as he looked at the small orange Pokemon with small stumbly legs, Trapinch is notorious for its extremely slow speed.
That can be translated through its move Dig, instead of walking on the surface, this little fella is faster underground.
"Hello you two, my name is Ray and I am your new Pokemon trainer." The Junior Professor introduced himself first.
Both of the newcomers nodded in their way.
Pawniard simply nodded at him, the way it looked like he didn't care, while Trapinch nodded happily, the Pallet native could see pure happiness in the little Pokemon's eyes.
After the introductions were over Ray called out his remaining Pokemon who introduced themselves as well.
While they were discussing with each other Ray was thinking about training, for these two.
He did plan a rough plan for these two when he was travelling to Cerulean.
Pawniard is an absolute beast against enemies like Nidorino, as Poison-type is quite useless against Steel-type unless the Poison Pin Pokemon has an ace move like Double Kick or some other Fighting-type move.
In other words, Ray can use Pawniard to fight Nidorino without restraints.
While it will be much more difficult to train Trapinch since the Pokemon has one of the lowest walking speeds in the Pokemon world.
Another reason why barely anyone trains the Ant Pit Pokemon.
The biggest challenge will be to make the little Pokemon evolve into Vibrava, after that it will be much easier to raise it into Flygon.
"Right! So, let's get back to the training guys!"
Ray snapped his team out of the conversations they were having.
It was quite something seeing Trapinch getting along with Rhyhorn over their giddiness while Pawniard was wearily looking at Charmeleon in the distance while having to listen to Nidorino who was telling the Dark/Steel Pokemon something about smashing stuff, that's what Ray could understand from the movement of Poison Pin Pokemon.
While the Flying/Normal type was away from the group enjoying the sun alongside Ray's starter.
Quickly enough all six of Ray's Pokemon have lined up, something similar to what one could see in the army.
The two newcomers awkwardly followed the rest of the team, not knowing what was going on.
"There will be minimum training for today, as you guys already have battled plenty today, nonetheless we need to figure out the fighting capacity of our new team members."
"So we will start with Nidorino against Pawniard."
The moment Ray said Nidorino the Poison Pin Pokemon rushed forward and was ready to fight.
The Dark/Steel Pokemon followed soon after, in a much more controlled fashion, The Junior Professor already started to build the profile for his only Steel-type in his mind.
The way it looks like it's going to be a 'Cool' type, a mindful type of Pokemon, a technician set of moves would work best for such a type.
'So, Sword Dance, Night Slash, some ranged moves, some STAB moves like Meteor Mash, Bullet Punch.' Ray thought for a second before he looked at two of his Pokemon facing off.
"Nidorino starts with Take Down and Pawniard use Fury Cutter."
Moments later the Poison Pin Pokemon rushed at the incoming Dark/Steel, very last moment he used his hind legs to jump and try to take Pawniard down.
The Sharp Blade Pokemon's eyes slightly widened the Pokemon was not expecting the jump very last moment.
The short hesitation at that moment was enough for Nidorino to push the Dark/Steel Pokemon down with a load of force.
While the force was huge the Pokemon in question barely felt this as he after all a Steel type, normal attack barely fazed Pawniard.
"Pawniard try pushing Nidorino off you and use Leer!" Ray ordered the Sharp Blade Pokemon who listened to his trainer's command and Leered at the Poison Pin Pokemon.
This status-affecting move did its trick and made the hold weaken and Pawniard pushed Poison-type off.
"Now use Fury Cutter and Nidorino use Double Kick."
Once again Pawniard tried to use Fury Cutter but Nidorino was much faster and sent the Dark/Steel Pokemon flying.
The sound of super-effective move four times spread through the training arena.
Ray grimaced seeing that, Pawniard got wasted with that single move.
'Damn, Nidorino is a beast, but Fighting Type is the most dangerous type for Pawniard.'
The Junior Professor recalled his new Pokemon while walking over to Nidorino.
"That was splendid work Nidorino." The Pallet native praised his Poison-type Pokemon while expecting any injuries, after all, he faced a literal walking weapon, but weirdly there was not a single scratch on the Poison Pin Pokemon!
'This world's laws are weird! Pawniard chest has two horizontal blades and Nidorino lunged at those blades!' Ray eyed his Pokemon while thinking of the weirdness of this!
Yet his Pokemon is totally fine! Well, if the world thinks it's fine, who is he to complain about that?
The Poison Pin Pokemon happily nodded at his trainer, accepting the compliment not that the battle was difficult.
The Poison-type is sure that his new teammate will soon catch up to the rest of the team and will be a good sparing buddy to have!
"Well, and Trapinch are you ready?" Ray turned around and looked at the eager Ground Type.
The Ant Pit Pokemon quickly nodded at his trainer and started walking towards the arena.
The Poison-type didn't know how to react to such… interesting Pokemon, it was very small compared to him and doesn't look that strong…
"This is a good experience for you Nidorino, you never faced such an opponent before, so start with another Double Kick! And you Trapinch use Bite!"
Ray ordered his Pokemon to begin the battle but what he saw next was something he did not expect…
Nidorino was about to hit with his hind legs once more but at that moment Trapinch acted with lightning-fast reflex and lunged at the Poison Pin Pokemon…
Biting into the Poison Type's leg…
A scream escaped from Nidorino's mouth as the whole battle turned into an anime comedy moment with massive tears running down from the Poison Pin Pokemon's eyes.
While Trapinch… Well, the Ground Type turned purple, showing that it got poisoned.
"Nido! Nido! Nido!" The Poison-type begged his trainer to end such suffering with teary eyes while Trapinch started salivating poison from its mouth...
"Okay, Okay! Both of you return!" Ray quickly returned the duo… and looked at the rest of the team.
Pidgeottto and Charmeleon were snickering seeing that while Rhyhorn sort of looked confused at why Nidorino reacted like that.
It was obvious that the Ground/Rock type never has experienced a bite like that before, and probably never will with the plates it has for skin...
"Right, the rest of you return, time for rest." As Ray said that he recalled the rest of his team, and started walking back to Cerulean Pokemon Centre.
~~~
It was around 8 in the evening when Ray was done with his bath and food when he checked out his laptop.
The first thing he did was check what kind of Pokemon are available on this side of the mountain.
"Well, this is something else… The lineup is much more diverse than I thought…" The Junior Professor said with a lazy tone.
Before this, he only glanced at the possible Pokemon to find in the forests surrounding Cerulean.
The most obvious thing which attracted his attention was Abra.
A very good AND annoying Pokemon, the Abra line is powerful, very so, in original Generation One games Abra line dominated everything, until some balancing was done with Generation Two, and Dragon Types took the throne.
But, before that, Alakazam dominated the battlefield, but what is annoying right now is that capturing Abra is difficult.
The Physic type can quite literally teleport away from him while asleep!
Capturing without Ghost-type assistance, as in Mean Look is one hell of a move, is quite impossible unless he would throw Pokeball the very moment Abra appears in his sight.
Another Pokemon that got his attention is Horsea, the Pokemon which becomes a Water/Dragon-type, a beast if one knows how to raise it.
The Junior Professor remembered that Claire from Blackthorn City had one.
Probably the only Kingdra in this part of the region for a couple of years until people discover the means to achieve this evolution for their Seadras.
And then of course sighting of Growlithe and Vulpix…
'So… four more Pokemons…' Ray marked these four Pokemons.
All of them are good and powerful if properly raised.
Arcanine is vital for transportation and travelling plus it's super cool and amazing looking, and Ninetails is just a beautiful Pokemon to have at side, while Kingdra is a powerful water-based Dragon-type.
It will come in handy in Hoenn where a bunch of water routes are existing and has a bunch of Islands and diving locations waiting to be discovered.
After thinking for a bit he downloaded the relevant information on them.
While he already read the majority, of them before, he decided to refresh his memory.
The only problem is that Kingdra is rare at this moment, just as much as Milotic.
Milotic absurdly so, only two guys have that Pokemon in this part of the world!
That's freaking insane! Wallace and that other dude who will take over Sootopolis Gym after the Water expert decides to be either Hoenn Champion or Professional Coordinator.
Either way, only those two have Milotic, well, Ray could get one, but the problem is Feebas…
"Meh… I could get one In Hoenn, unlike the game the Fish Pokemon is not so rare, only that people don't know what it evolves to…"
As Ray was planning his future captures he logged in to check his League account, as a Junior Professor he has one, he practically has a Forum there.
People are curious about his discoveries and stuff he regularly gets asked by some of his fellow professors, mostly about his books and the three new types he 'discovered'.
Well, he did mention Pokemon natures, which is not a new thing, It is common sense that Pokemon have their personalities, but not many know that those personalities can affect their fighting style, like stats in the game.
It's no secret that trainers try to push their fighting style on their Pokemon, The most obvious example in this is Ash who struggled with his Torterra and Grotle, and of course, he forgot about this Grass-type starter like the rest of his Pokemon, while his Greninja became a Champion Level Pokemon because their styles just clicked that much.
And so, Ray was writing his essay on this and going to post it once he was done, the weirdest part was that he only mentioned it this off-hand…
Yet, he didn't realise his fame would have the effect.
The thread exploded with comments, from freaking Professors to Gym Leaders…
And now he was reading it through, while slowly nodding to himself it seems people did notice this after he pointed it out…
"Hmm? What this…"
'Curious…Electric types, I don't think I ever mentioned anything about them. Hmm, it seems this girl is asking for some tips on them.'
'Where did I see you before?'
