Where Garry went to Pokemon Centre Ray went towards the outskirts of the city.
His goal is fishing and capturing a Horsea, with the preparations he did before his chances of catching one should be much higher.
After all, he switched his bait and did some studying on where one could get a Horsea.
Once he was in place he pulled out his fishing set and summoned Nidorino. The Poison Pin Pokemon quickly realised what he would be doing…
So he decided to nap and wait for that fateful moment when he needed to beat up some fish…
Ray could only sigh when he saw that. He sort of is jealous that his Pokemon can just laze around like this, the Junior Professor only looked at Nidorino for a bit as he returned to prepare for his fishing.
Once the hook and bait were set Ray started the process of fishing.
His wait was only a few moments as he felt a pull. With a quick yank, Ray saw what Pokemon he caught.
'A Tentacool! I guess it worked!? I used less fish bait and more focused on Sea Horse tastes! Tentacool is just a jelly creature who eats everything!'
"Nidorino send him back! Use Take Down!"
Hearing the command the Poison Pin Pokemon lunged forward and smashed into Tentacool.
Sending it back into the water. With a huff, the Poison-type returned to his sleeping.
Once the Jellyfish Pokemon was sent back Ray prepared another bait.
A few minutes later another pull and it was another Tentacool…
And once again Nidorino sent it flying back into the water.
Ray tried this again this time however he set it up in a slightly different location. However, the result was the same he got another Tentacool.
'It's either this area is infested with these Jellyfish or my luck is just utterly shit…'
Thinking for a bit the Junior Professor decided that he would wait for seven more bites if they all going to be Tentacool then he would change his location.
And so he continued with his fishing…
The fourth bite was another Tentacool, followed by the fifth, sixth…
Then the seventh one was Magicarp… which means that Ray got the whole pack of Jellyfish Pokemon sent away allowing for other water-types to get his bait.
'This is it!'
The Pallet Native grinned silly seeing Magicarp of all things!
"Send it back, Nidorino!"
The poison-type once more lunged forward and sent the water-type back into the lake.
Once the wild Pokemon was gone Ray quickly prepared another bait and threw it into the lake.
…
…
…
Several minutes passed and once again there was a pull. Junior Professor quickly pulled the fishing rod and saw what he caught.
His eyes widened to a massive degree, and for a second his brain froze. But he quickly snapped out.
"Nidorino!!! Pull it in! pull it IN!!!" Ray frantically ordered. The Poison Pin Pokemon quickly realised that this ugly and useless-looking Pokemon was something his trainer wanted so he would deal with it quickly!
The Poison-type lunged forward and with a spin used Double Kick and sent the fish flying into a tree.
The moment the Water-type collided with the tree it had swirls in its eyes. Indicating that it was knocked out. This was enough for Nidorino to know that this Pokemon was weak…
But, Ray… quickly pulled out an empty Pokeball and threw it at the knocked-out fish.
The ball hit the fish and sucked it in. Moments later there was a click sound indicating a successful capture. The next moment the ball shrunk and locked itself up.
The Junior Professor just looked at his successful capture with disbelief. He just captured one of the rarest water types around!
A Pokemon opposite to Magicarp's evolutionary line in every sense. It's evolution Gyarados including. Where Gyarados is an offensive beast this one's evolution is a defensive beast…
What Ray means… he just captured Feebas…
A very useless Pokemon at the moment… but it's evolution… Milotic… well that's a Pokemon that is in a roster of at least two Champion level trainers.
Wallace and Cynthia. At least in the game. Simply put it's an incredible Pokemon, and now he has one! Well, the pre-evolution form that is!
Very gingerly Ray walked over and collected it, he pulled out his Pokedex, slowly that is, and opened it, he then scanned the locked Pokeball in his hand.
[Feebas]
[Fish Pokemon]
[Type: Water]
[Ability: Swift Swim]
[Gender: Female]
[Moves: Splash, Tackle]
"Unbelievable… I caught one of these!" He said that with disbelief to himself.
Milotic is one of the ones he always wanted to have. Hell! Everyone wants to have one! He could ask any water-type trainer and he would say that he wants either a water-type starter or a Milotic!
The problem however is finding a Feebas… as mentioned before it's opposite to Magicarp. Where Magicarp has infested everywhere Feebas is the complete opposite.
One could only be found in specific areas like the one Ray fished at the moment. A very weedy place… or quite polluted rivers or lakes…which are quite weird places to live…
This Pokemon is so largely ignored that people don't even know that Milotic is Feebas evolutionary form which makes a wild Milotic an extremely rare occurrence.
Over a year back when Ray just become a Junior Professor he started checking databanks on Milotic and turns out that there are only 5 of them registered under a trainer. Two of them are from Sootopolis in Hoenn. Under Juan and Wallace…
This is not that strange as Wallace most likely told the man how to raise a Feebas into the majestic Tender Pokemon.
This means that if Ray is to raise a Milotic… he will 'join' quite an exclusive list of trainers…
"My thanks for helping me Nidorino, now rest for a bit, we will be training later." The Junior Professor recalled his Poison Pin Pokemon before pocketing both pokeballs.
Then he collected his gear and quickly rushed back to Cerulean City.
More specifically to the shopping district. Unlike before he went towards a more luxurious area dedicated to Pokemon.
'Let's see… how much does this cost?'
Ray walked into a store that sells all sorts of beautiful and shiny items, they all are from Water Pokemon, like pearls, shiny stones, shells…
Eventually, his eyes landed on a rainbow-like scale, its colour would change depending on the angle one is looking.
What he just found is Milotic's scale also known as Prism Scale. And its price was 20k…
Well, if he was a newbie trainer who doesn't have proper income then he wouldn't buy something which costs as much as an average person's yearly wages…
However, he couldn't wait to find a cheaper one and simply decided to buy this one.
Once he picked it up he walked over to the counter and handed over the scale and his golden credit card.
After getting the Prism Scale he went over to the general store and this time he bought a set of evolutionary stones. There was no ice stone or the dusk some. Only the basic ones… thankfully in the Kanto set Moonstone is included. As far as he knows this is different in other regions… in Johto instead of Moonstone one gets Sun Stone.
This is quite an interesting thing… as far as he knows the set in Sinnoh is even more different. For example, it has dusk and dawn stones added in the mix instead of a Sun Stone.
'Anyway… this is one hell of a shopping spree… I just spend over 45 thousand bucks… that around middle-class regular man's yearly salary…' Ray thought with a thoughtful look as he checked his bank account on his Pokedex.
However, he is not worried… he still has more than 300 thousand of spending money. Not to mention he gets paid every month. Royalties are still coming his way from those guidebook sales and he gets paid by the league as well.
The more things he posts the more money he gets…
Once the essay on Pokemon nature is done he will get more money.
However, he is slightly concerned about that since there is the possibility that he will make his opposition stronger in the upcoming Indigo Plateau Conference.
'In that case, I just going to capture rarer Pokemon and should get that Chansey.' Thinking for a bit more Ray stashed his Evolution Stones set and started walking towards Pokemon Centre he is feeling hungry.
~~~
"Hello, Professor!"
"Ray my boy! A couple of hours ago I got a call from Gary." Professor Oak said that with an amused smile.
"Oh?"
"He was quite… inspired and… more down to earth? I can assume he battles you." The Kanto Professor said while stroking his chin. He already made a connection that his grandson fought Ray in Cerulean since both are in the city.
"Good to hear. If I can compare those two then Gary would win by a landslide. Ash doesn't even know the type of matchups. However Ashy has a better battle instinct. Anyway! Professor, I am sending over my Rhyhorn. I need a slot for my Feebas."
Professor's eyebrow went up when he heard Feebas being mentioned. He quickly went over and checked Ray's trainer's page.
"What do we have here? What… an interesting Pokemon you have captured. I can assume you have a theory for this one?" The Kanto Professor asked with quite a curious tone.
Professor Oak has not encountered this one before. Sure he has read some articles about its absurd vitality but it's about it.
If Ray has specifically captured this Fish Pokemon then he might suspect something and he can't wait to see what it is!
"I do. You will see it in a couple of hours. I am going to train and you will be updated soon after my training session is over. I will be updating my Pokedex with new data."
"Hoh? I will wait with interest then."
Ray nodded pulled out his Rhyhorn Pokeball and sent it over to the Professor. That moment Feebas Pokeball got unlocked.
"I got it."
"Good. He has his instructions. If he forgets make sure to remind him." The Junior Professor said that with a sigh.
"Don't worry. This is not the first time I am watching over a Rhyhorn." Professor Oak said that with a knowing look. He knows well enough about the Spikes Pokemon.
"True. Anyway, I have to go, can't burn more of the daylight!"
Seeing how excited Ray is the Professor was even more curious about what he has planned with that Fish Pokemon…
"Then I won't be keeping you Ray, my boy! I will wait for that Pokedex upgrade."
The Pallet Native nodded at his Professor before ending the call.
~~~
After doing everything he wanted in Pokemon Centre Ray rushed back to the lake in north of Cerulean. This time it's training and not fishing.
The moment he was there he threw Feebas Pokeball. Moments later the Fish Pokemon manifested. The water-type looked very curiously at her new trainer. The fish can't believe someone made the effort to capture her in the first place!
"Hello, Feebas! I am your new trainer!" The Junior Professor approached the water type who was curiously looking at him.
Then he pulled out something from his pocket. Feebas eyes widened for a second. The Fish Pokemon instinctively knew what it was!
"Are you ready?" Ray asked his water-type Pokemon.
His new Pokemon quickly nodded multiple times. Who wouldn't want to evolve!?
The Junior Professor offered the Prism Scale and Feebas touched it.
Then Feebas was enveloped in blinding light and her form started to rapidly increase. From fish into a serpentine.
Where most Pokemon roar upon finishing their evolution in Feebas or Milotic's case it was melodious cooing.
When Ray regained his bearing the light sort of blinded him since he was very much close. He was able to see the Tender Pokemon.
His eyes widened for a bit. It was a very beautiful and majestic Pokemon.
'Whoa… I saw some pictures and videos… but this is… different!'
The water-type cooed at her trainer offering her head for a patting.
Ray chuckled internally seeing that. He gently strokes the Pokemon's head.
'So soft… damn no wonder everyone is going head over heels for this species. I bet I will get loads of girls' emails once they see me with Milotic.' For a second the Junior Professor imagines the number on his e-mail box…
A chill went down his spine.
'Maybe… it's a bad idea… well, whatever, Milotic is a great catch! Hell, I still remember how one easily tanked Thunder from Magnezone even with a level difference. Ah… good old times…'
While one of the hands was stroking the head of Tender Pokemon, Ray pulled out his Pokedex and scanned the Water-Type.
[Milotic]
[Tender Pokemon]
[Type: Water]
[Ability: Marvel Scale]
[Gender: Female]
[Moves: Splash, Tackle, Twister]
'So it's marvel scale… hmm… if my memory serves me right it increases Defense if Milotic has status effects. On top of that, she learned Twister.
Well, it will be useful in water, I still have Water Pulse, Ice Beam and Toxic.'
Thinking for a bit Ray realized he had three T.M.s which fit his newest addition to his team.
But for now, the Junior Professor decided to start training for the Gym.
He pocketed his Pokedex and pulled out his pokeballs before releasing his Pokemon.
One by one his team manifested around him.
The Tender Pokemon curiously looked at her trainer Pokemons
"Guys! Meet the newest addition to the team! Milotic!"
Everyone looked with slightly widened eyes at the water type. They had never seen someone this… beautiful.
The most confused was Nidorino who was trying to understand what was going on! He remembers kicking some ugly fish into a tree!
"Nidorino this is the very same Pokemon you helped me to capture."
For a second the Poison Pin Pokemon tried to process what his trainer just said. The rest looked at the poison-type, they all looked confused as hell Pokemon.
Nidorino shook his head. Waiting for his trainer to explain!
"Don't look so confused. I simply evolved her." Ray said with an amused tone. He saw how confused his poison type was. He decided to clarify.
The Poison Pin Pokemon nodded with a realised look. Now it made sense!
"Right, now that the introduction is out of the way we going to return to training."
Everyone quickly lined up. Even the recent additions like Pawniard and Trapinch did that.
While Milotic looked curiously at this development.
"We will be returning to the same stuff we did yesterday. Pidgeotto will be training its Flying-type energy, Pawniard will be practising to learn Slash, Trapinch will be working on its leg muscles, Nidorino will continue with Venoshock practice, and Charmeleon will continue with his Flamethrower."
They all nodded and quickly found their places to practise.
Ray made sure he found a good place. There are several boulders, and quite a bit of trees, and the lake is close by, a perfect place to train!
"While we Milotic will be practising water type energy. I need you to start learning proper water-type moves." As the Junior Professor said that the Tender Pokemon quite seriously nodded.
The beautiful Pokemon needs to start showing her worth. After all her trainer did all that for her so she will show how powerful she truly is.
The Pokemon cooed as she moved into position.
Seeing how quickly his water type got serious brought a smile to Ray's face.
"Good! We will start with the basics! Water Gun is a very simple move, you need to focus on the type of energy in your gut and send it out through your mouth. There is no charging just pure energy."
~~~~~~Back in Pallet Town~~~~~~
Professor Oak was doing some study on the Pokemon Ray just caught.
Feebas is quite a simple fish with above-average vitality. The first time recorded in Hoenn. Thus regarded as Hoenn native Pokemon.
But, according to more studies, it was revealed that it's similar to Magicarp and it's not just in Hoenn. It doesn't need a warm climate so it can be found in another place. However, it prefers weedy waters or even polluted waters.
However, what made him quite fascinated is that barely anyone in the whole Pokemon world captures this Pokemon.
It's like they either forget that such a creature exists. Or they repulsed by its looks…
"Hmm? Notification?" The Professor saw a notification pop up in the corner of his computer.
With a quick check on the clock, he realised that several hours had passed already!
"Oh! Ray updated his dex!" The old man quickly closed the tabs on Feebas and checked the new data the Junior Professor uploaded.
His eyes widened to a massive degree as he saw that Ray's Feebas evolved into Tender Pokemon Milotic!
He facepalmed for not making the connection before. No wonder Wallace is so smug with his Milotic! Always eluding how he got his Pokemon.
Now it makes sense. The regional professor checked out the measurement, weight…
"Fascinating…it has the same ability as Dratini and Dragonair… Hmm…it shows that its vitality went up even further… if my guess is right it can take even more punishment." Professor Oak stroked his chin for a bit before starting to write an e-mail to Ray.
'Oh, I need to update the Pokedex. Maybe there will be more Milotic around in future!'
~~~~~~Later~~~~~~
'Teaching Milotic Water Gun wasn't that difficult. Now to move on to Hydro Pump. I still have those TM's… on another note, Pawniard learned Slash and Pidgeotto is close to learning Brave Bird. The first stage is down, but, the second stage is more difficult.' A sigh escaped from Ray's mouth as he remembered how many times his flyer failed.
'I truly need that Chansey. Pidgeotto knocked himself out multiple times already, and those revives cost money…'
Much better were his Nidorino while Venoshock eluded him he learned Sludge.
Something normally Nidorino won't learn. However, this is an indication that he is moving forward towards Sludge Bomb which is quite a deadly move.
While Charmeleon is approaching quite a good plateau of power for his Flamethrower which is good because Ray will be teaching Fire Blast soon.
After mentally going through the day's training. Ray checked his e-mails.
A smirk appeared on his face when he saw an excited letter from Professor Oak. The man wants a detailed report on Pokemon and of course, wants a chance to inspect her when he sends her to the ranch.
None of his previous sponsored trainers had Milotic so he is itching to get one in his ranch.
Ray quickly sent the answer to him that he would be writing one soon anyway.
After sending the mail, he pulled out his Milotic Pokeball and then three T.M.s he had which fit his water-type Pokemon. It's time to teach Ice Beam, Water Pulse and Toxic.
The Junior Professor decided that after tomorrow he will be challenging the gym. His Milotic should have the moves down by then.
He has put the Pokeball in the middle of the Ice Beam disc. For a second it glowed. He repeated the same actions two more times.
Now his Pokemon knew three more moves!
Once he finished with those he returned to working on his essay for the remainder of the evening.
~~~~~~Day After Tomorrow ~~~~~~
Ray took a deep breath calming himself. His Milotic is turning out to be a beast. With the addition of Ice Beam, Water Pulse and Toxic. The Tender Pokemon can simply outlast a poisoned Pokemon quite easily.
While his water type is amazing. His other Pokemon doing a fantastic job as well!
Pawniard learned Slash, and Pidgeotto even through knocking himself out is close to learning Brave Bird, which by all means is a move used by much more experienced or evolved Pokemon.
Regardless he is ready to fight. That's why he was in front of the Cerulean Gym.
Unlike Pewter Gym this one was much more posh. Something akin to an aquarium or water stadium where water attractions are done
It was quite the opposite in the atmosphere as well.
Without wasting any more time he walked in.
Once he passed through the automatic door he saw that there was no one in the reception…
'Uhh… these girls…' Ray shook his head passed the reception and walked towards where the gym is…
Sure enough, he saw at least four pools and one big pool which looked like a gym arena.
He was a multitude of Pokemon in these ponds. There were several. Seel, Dewgong, Goldeen, Seaking, Cloyster, Poliwag, Poliwhirl… and a bunch of other water-types…
Soon enough the Junior Professor saw the trio of girls in their bikinis resting in beach chairs. From the looks of it, they just did some sort of exercises which mostly likely related to their water show…
Sure enough, they finally noticed Ray.
"The gym is closed. Water show happens in the evenings." The blonde one said.
"While I no doubt your show is amazing, I am here for a gym battle," Ray asked with a smile.
Hearing his request the blonde sighed.
"Are you? Well fine… girls which one of you wants to battle him?" The blonde asked her sisters with a lazy tone.
The other two shook their heads. Making the blonde sigh again.
"Fine! Whatever! I will do it myself then!" She got up from the seat and motioned him to follow her. The middle sister realised soon enough that they don't have a referee so she had to get up as well.
Seeing that both of her siblings are up the youngest one did so too.
And so they all went to the arena, on one side was the blonde girl by the name Daisy and on the other side was Ray.
"Well, what's your name?" She asked with a bored tone.
"I am Ray from Pallet Town."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"""!?"""
Then all three girls squealed, forgetting about the battle they all rushed towards him. Ray's eyes widened, he didn't expect this at all!
Moments later he got hugged by three very developed females!
He didn't know how he should react to this… should he make them release him? Or he should just enjoy those womanly bodies hugging him like that.
"Oh my gosh! I can't believe you are here in our Gym! You should totally watch us perform this evening!" Daisy said with an extremely happy tone.
"Umm… I will most likely do that. But first I want that battle." Ray said that while enjoying those sweet assets touching his back…
"Of course! I will battle you!" Violet the middle sister said with an excited tone.
"What!? I am the one who will fight him!!!" Daisy said with an angry tone.
"No, I want to fight him!" Lily the youngest said with a pout.
The Junior Professor started sweating, he realised that they would soon fight each other instead of him.
"What? You didn't want to battle before!" Daisy said with angry disbelief.
"That's because I thought he was some random trainer!" Lily said with a huff.
"Girls! GIRLS!" Ray got everyone's attention.
"I will fight Daisy and after that, we can have dinner and talk about water types what do you three say?" The Junior Professor offered the olive branch to this situation.
All three that moment had stars in their eyes.
"""Deal!"""
Moments later they all rushed back to their positions.
Now more than ever they are eager to do their best!
"This is an official 1 vs 1 Gym battle between challenger Ray from Pallet Town and Daisy the Cerulean Gym Leader! Now Begin!" Violet said as she raised both of her hands.
"Dewgong let's go! Let's show Ray how good we are!" The blonde threw her Pokeball and Sea Lion Pokemon manifested on one of the floating platforms.
Seeing his opponent, the Junior Professor decided to stick with his original plan and decided to go with Milotic.
"Milotic! You are up!"
With a burst of light, the Tender Pokemon manifested on the platform right in front of Ray.
The water-type Pokemon cooed the moment it appeared.
The girls squealed seeing such a beautiful Pokemon.
"Unbelievable! It's a Milotic! Where do you even get one!?" Daisy asked with hearts in her eyes! Such majestic Pokemon! She had never seen such a beautiful creature before!
"In your lake. Where else do you think I got one?" Ray asked her with an amused small.
"""WHAT!?"""
"Funny isn't it?"
"You lie! I have never heard that our lake has Milotic!" She exclaimed loudly pointing her finger at him.
"There is. I can teach you how to raise one if you want. First, we need to finish our battle though, then I can tell you some tricks!"
"Very well! Now that's a date!" The blonde said with a grin. Spending time with a future Professor and learning how to raise a Milotic? Now that is someone she would want for a husband right there!
Where Ray sweatdropped for a bit.
'Well, this is derailing at a rapid pace…'
"We should start! You can move first!" the Junior Professor motioned to start.
"Alright! Dewgong use Icy Wind!" Daisy quickly ordered her Pokemon.
The Water/Ice-type glowed ice blue for a bit before releasing a wave of freezing wind towards the Tender Pokemon.
"Counter it with your Twister."
The pure water-type motioned with her tail quite elegantly, sending a twister of pure dragon energy. While it's not as powerful as Dewgong's STAB move It was enough to cancel each other.
"Now use Water Pulse!" Ray quickly ordered her to move on offence.
Milotic opened its mouth created a ball of water and then shot at the Sea Lion Pokemon.
"Not so fast! Dewgong! Dodge it by jumping into the water!" Daisy quickly ordered as she saw the incoming attack.
"I expected that! Milotic use Toxic on the water."
"W-What!? Do you know how long it takes to clean up the pool!?" Daisy said that with a grimace as she realised that the pool would need to get cleaned after this!
"Don't sweat it. If you follow the regulation of Pokemon League it will only take a day." Ray said with not caring shrug as his Tender Pokemon released a stream of toxins into the water…
Slowly the pool started to turn purple…
"Damn! Dewgong quickly get out of the pool!" The blonde hastily ordered the Sea Lion Pokemon.
The water/ice type moments later jumped out. But its pristine white fur already was purple…
'Damn! It got poisoned!' Daisy grimaced seeing her Pokemon state. She should have known Ray wouldn't arrive here unprepared!
"Dewgong use Aurora Beam and try getting closer!" The girl ordered her Pokemon she realised that she needed to end this quickly and as far as she knew using Water and Ice-type moves only delivered half the damage. So, instead, she should use moves that deliver more damage. And she only has a few of those and they are all physical.
"Counter with Ice Beam." Ray casually ordered his Pokemon. Now the only thing he needs to do is wait, the Poison will deal with the Sea Lion Pokemon. Honestly, he should find a grass-type or electric-type soon.
Once again collision cancelled each other moves. Daisy grimaced seeing this, she realised that she needed to deal damage quickly otherwise the poison would knock her Pokemon out!
"Dewgong we need to deal damage! Jump and use Horn Attack!"
Ray grinned for a second now that sounded like desperation!
"Send him back with Twister! Then follow with Tackle!"
The Tender Pokemon intercepted the approaching water/ice-type with a twister which sent it back flying.
However, this was not the end as the pure water-type jumped herself and smacked into the Sea Lion Pokemon. Sending it flying right into poisoned water.
The majestic Milotic landed elegantly on the platform and waited for the water/ice Pokemon to come out from the water.
Daisy grimaced seeing how badly her Dewgong was handled. She didn't expect someone to counter her attacks like that. Thinking for a bit she still Encore, she can use which will limit Milotic movement…
Before she could order she saw her Pokemon jumping out of the water and land on the platform. Her Pokemon was much more purple than before… this was bad!
"Dewgong can you continue!?" The blonde asked her Pokemon who nodded at her…
But then… poison acted… and the water/ice Pokemon's whole body twitched before it collapsed with swirls in his eyes.
"Umm… Dewgong can't fight anymore! Milotic is the winner!" Violet raised her hand motioning towards Ray.
"Ray of Pallet Town is the winner of this battle!"
Daisy sighed as she recalled her Dewgong. Ray did the same with his Milotic. He thanked his Tender Pokemon before clipping the Pokeball back on his magnetic belt.
"Well, it was quite an… eye-opening battle. I haven't fought someone who turned the whole pool into a poison field." Daisy said as she approached the Pallet Native with her sisters.
"...Never?" Ray asked with disbelief.
"No…they are more likely to use electric move on the whole pool instead of poisoning it." She clarified with a shrug.
"Still, you won, and the badge is yours." She said that while motioning for Lily to hand over the badge that the youngest girl brought to the Junior Professor.
Moments later Ray picked up a blue badge in the shape of the water droplet.
It was the Cascade Badge!
