Fate in Denial c78

“What are we looking for?” Saber Alter asked, as they had been walking around the city of Mexico for the whole day.

It was not normal as Ren was looking around for something.

“I am looking for a good starting point to summon a Divine Spirit.”

“Divine Spirit!? W-What for!? Those are dangerous!” Jeanne manifested next to him.

“Like Ereshkigal?” He looked at Jeanne, reminding her about the harmless Goddess.

“...This…” Jeanne looked at the fellow blonde..

“Why are you comparing me to someone?!” The blonde Goddess looked offended that her Master was comparing her like that!

“There is a reason why I am interested in this spirit is because it went through several changes.” He began to explain to them.

“Starting as the spirit of a lake, this spirit went through several evolutions of sorts. Ending as the spirit of a city.

If I can turn this spirit into a Servant, combined with Morgan’s territory creation, I would have the most powerful combination in history.

Since this spirit is a city spirit and is connected to water.”

“Hmm… I see your point.” Morgan nodded; she could see the appeal of that. She cares about the castle, but having someone care about the city… that could give her extra time with her husband in the future.

“Indeed. Besides, I want to see the Servant class.” Ren smiled while saying that.

“You already know. That look tells us all we need to know.” The Fallen King of Knights sighed, and the regular Saber nodded at the Alter’s words. She already knows her Master nature!

He is a cheat! Simple as that!

“What is this spirit’s servant class?” Ereshkigal asked, curious.

“Pretender.” He smiled.

“...What is this class?” They all looked at him, they had never heard of this class!

“Like I said. Because of changes in the surroundings, this spirit changed alongside it, from a lake spirit, to god of rain, to god of war, to the spirit of the city. It is what led to becoming a Pretender, as it can switch between those.”

“Interesting…I assume this is an Extra Class.” Morgan commented as she stroked her chin. These extra classes are very interesting.

“Indeed, like Alter Ego, or Ruler.”

“So they have special abilities?” Jeanne appeared next to her Master.

“They do. You have Command Seals, Alter Egos, and Foreigners have more powers in general, alongside Class Skills. Then, you have Pretenders, which are several classes mashed together, and Avengers, who are simply sane versions of Berserkers, extremely scary in general.

This Divine Spirit in Particular is a mash-up of Ruler and Berserker.”

“Oh… that is a scary combination,” Jeanne commented. She is having this strange feeling when her Master mentioned Avenger… as if she is forgetting something important.

“It is that is why I want to turn this spirit into a Servant.”

As he commented, he ended up placing his hand on a wall in a specific area, marking it before walking once more.

He selected a square area before the selected area began to glow.

Moments later, ghostly brownish-yellow pyramids rose from the ground. Ren’s eyes turned hollow like a void itself.

“Come, Tenochtitlan, I shall give you a second chance.” Ray walked into the ghostly temple, becoming one himself… entering a long, long-gone era.

As he took the steps, he arrived at the temple area. Where a presence was living.

“Human… how did you get here?” Several voices were speaking at the same time to him. One was regal, one was bloodthirsty, and the other was relaxed…like water.

They were all females…

“I am here to offer you a second chance, Tenochtitlan.”

“Second chance? What can you possibly do? The lake is gone, my people are gone, and my city is no longer recognisable.” Bloodlust rose, permeating the entire area. It was clear that this spirit hates everything that happened to her city.

“I can turn you into a Servant, allowing you to leave this area. I can grant you a physical body, if you follow me, you can build a new city. This time, you will be prepared against any kind of invaders.” He offered to the spirit.

“Ha, your words are so sweet. However, how can you possibly do any of it?” The spirit condensed and became a girl… with black and blue hair, dressed in Aztec clothes, feathers adorning her attire. She was holding a whip in her hand, and her eyes were red, glowing with bloodlust.

“Then let’s fight. If you beat me, I will leave you. If I win, I will take you with me.” He suggested to her.

“Ha. Fine with me!” As she said that, water appeared underneath her and rose before turning into serpents and rushing towards him.

Ren simply stared at incoming projectiles, blue ripples appeared behind him, launching several noble phantasms, shredding the projectiles.

Tenochtitlán frowned as a stone tablet appeared behind her, releasing a blinding light that could burn people away; it would be a deadly attack against the Dead Apostles.

“You need to try harder, my dear city spirit.” Ren appeared behind her, and a black sword with red symbols was on her neck.

‘How did he appear behind me!?’

She swiftly turned around and tried to hit him with a whip, but the Magician simply caught it and pulled her closer, his hand went for her neck.

Grabbing her and pinning her against a wall.

“And now, you are mine.” He smiled while looking at her.

“You… I will not forget this! I am a Divine Spirit of this city, human!” Her aura turned red, the colour of blood, as mechanical hands manifested from the air and grabbed him, throwing him out of the temple.

Midair Ren flipped over and landed in the air. Looking around, he realised that he was in the ancient city of the Aztecs.

Moments later, a literal robot blasted out of the temple. It wasn’t made of metal or something like that. It was strange, unknown material.

‘Some sort of guardian form? I assume this is how they saw the guardian spirit of the city.’ Ren wondered how she achieved this, because honestly, simply telling that she has a mech is a bit of a stretch.

“I shall burn you away!”

The midsection of the mech opened as energy began to gather before releasing a huge beam towards him.

Ren simply disappeared before appearing several metres away. The next moment, he motioned, and chains from all directions rushed towards the city spirit.

Chaining her up and pinning her down.

“Cease your attacks and become free with my help. Don’t you have a desire to continue being a city spirit for an actual city, rather than something like this? A city without people?” Ren asked her as the chains glowed, and she lost her mech form, shrinking to human form.

“You think you are capable of fulfilling all of these promises?” She asked with narrowed eyes.

“You think I would lie to you at this moment, to start something like this based on a lie?”

He scoffed for a second before expanding.

“You do realise that things based on lies eventually come out? As a Divine Spirit, you have seen such a thing, no?” The Magician explained that this deity had been around for a long time and should have witnessed many things.

Tenochtitlán looked at him for a second, not saying anything; those dead eyes were fixed on him.

“Very well. I shall entertain your proposition. Show me.

Her hostility dropped significantly, though he can sense that she is still radiating blood lust. He can understand that enough. Being the God of War has those things.

“Sure.”

Ren lifted his hand, and above his palm a golden cup manifested, radiating unfamiliar energy to the Divine Spirit.

The cup glowed, and light rushed towards the Divine Spirit. Moments later, something happened to her.

She looked at her hand. Her thoughts became clearer, and bloodlust took a backseat, becoming suppressed to the point that she could ignore it. However, it was not all; she became solid, no longer a spirit, her Goddess Core now inside flesh and blood.

“...You didn’t lie… You gave me a body, even calmed my urges… yet I still possess my powers in a crystallised version.

Fascinating, you are not bad…Master.” She smiled at him. There was a strange warp in her behaviour, now that she became a Pseudo Servant.

“Holy Grail, allowing miracles to happen, as long as I have a general idea, they are easy for me to do. Even for me to make you have all three forms of your essence in one place.”

“In the form of Pretender Class Servant.” As she took a step, her clothes shifted, becoming the modern city clothes of a city girl. Since she was the living embodiment of a city, she could adjust her looks.

“Indeed.”

Ren nodded before looking at her Parameters.

‘Three personal skills that empower everyone inside her territory… all of them are either A or EX… this is freaking crazy! With Territory Creation at EX, she is unkillable inside her territory.’

“What? Did my Master see something amazing?” She pushed her stylish glasses down and looked at him.

“Indeed. I think I just made a great call.”

“Hah! I am a Divine Spirit. Don’t compare with my other mediocre beings!” She walked over to him.

“Now that you made me into a Living Pseudo Servant, I have changed, maybe it’s for the best, Master.” She smiled, her smile was a bit strange, one could say possessive even.

Being Ruler and Berserker at the same time made her unhinged to some extent. Yet, clearly follow a strict set of rules, as that is a trait of a Ruler.

“It should have been. After all, you have a body now, that alone changes perspectives of things.” He replied.

“I see. But I do believe there is more, I have a connection now with you.” She reasoned that this connection was something she had begun to value deeply.

She looked at him, her black pupils glowed red for a second.

“I am the spirit of a city, and you are the ruler of that city. That’s the only way I see things.” Tenochititlan explained to him.

“Hmm. It makes sense when it comes to Master and Servant.”

He nodded before looking for the exit point. The Magician quickly located the spot where he had originally entered the ancient city.

“Let’s go.”

“Okay.”

~~~
Saber Alter deadpanned, and so did the other girls when they saw the newest addition to the family.
“I should have known that it would be a girl.” Jeanne sighed, as she should have guessed that from the start.
“It’s the most natural choice.” The Huntress commented as she appeared next to them as well. Normally, she is in a spirit form, following like a bodyguard or a sniper.
“Yes. But I can sense that you are very special.” Morgan looked at the newest addition. As a Fae, she can feel it. A connection…
“Hn. I can tell as well. You are being of nature, a child of Gaia. Yet, you are similar to humans in appearance. I can assume a Fae.” Tenochtitlan commented in a dull voice. From all the gathered Servants, she can accept this Fae the most, her water affinity approves of her.
“Fufufu, indeed, my affinity towards water is telling that you are a being of water.” Morgan chuckled. This is the first time she can so easily approve of someone being this close to her husband without worry.
“My identity as Tlaloc, God of Rain and my essence of City on an island is deeply connected to water.”
“I can see that. Your parameters are impressive in that regard.” Morgan noticed the amount of powers related to territory the Pretender has would make any Caster salivate.
“Hn, I am here to be my Master’s city.” The Divine Spirit declared seriously.
“I can leave you to that, I will take care of his Castle, you can take care of the City.” Morgan agreed with her.
