Tiki (braided) draws in Llulu's (pigtails) stale lung air and replenishes her with her own. It was natural, Llulu has had a very long swim through the ship's lower and upper decks into the gun turret while Tiki stood guard. Of the two, Tiki had the strongest lungs among the village younguns, while Llulu could swim the fastest. And both were taught never to "go up alone" when diving in a pair, even if one was caught in a deadlock.

Tiki: "Blooow....!"

Llulu: "Ugh..ugh...(gulp)"

ティキ（おさげ）がルル（ツインテ）のすえた空気を吸いだし、自分のもっと新鮮な空気におきかえる。これは当然のことだ。ルルは艦のながながしい上甲板、下甲板、砲とうと全部潜りぬき、その間ティキは見張りをしていたのだから。二人のうち、ティキは幼な衆のうちでいちばん長い息をしている。ルルは、潜りのはやさでは一番だ。そして二人とも、対でのしわざの時は絶対に相方を見すてないこと、それはたとえ千貫のおもりで水底に押さえつけられていても、絶対にひとりだけ浮かび上がらないことを、組でまんべんも教えつけられている。
