2021-12-12 17:14:52 +0000 UTCThis is actually one of the prevailing mysteries of the heroines we've been introduced to: how are they able to use sight to navigate underwater wrecks, caves, etc? Going back through AGVsG, AGMG, and even some side projects, if you pay attention to the characters' eyes, there seems to be a decided lack of pupils, but thinking again, what if the pupils are almost the entirety of the eye? Granted, it could be the art style, but whenever the divers are only a few meters deep, there is a clear distinction between the iris and pupil, which disappears below a certain threshold. The same effect happens whenever one of the girls is near drowning, highly focused, or otherwise exerting herself in the deep (though not every near limit experience has this effect, suggesting it might be a responsive tactic rather than an unconscious instinct). A good example would be the transition between AGVsG 27 and 28. When Aya and her cousin realize there's a good chance Chihaya may not make it back up at the end of 27's panel, the transition to 28 shows that their irises have disappeared. Could an extreme expansion of the pupil be one of the many methods they use to amplify their performance and increase their chances of survival? Is this even possible? Realistically speaking, no more than their other achievements down here, but maybe it's another suspension of disbelief aspects of the story.
