Doing some more thinking - maybe "lonely Chihaya" from a few days ago is lonely because she's NOT on the island with Aya, and instead spending a day off school swimming on a nearby section of coastline near where she lives on the Japanese home islands? A way to stay in practice until she can be with Aya again, perhaps?
