Hang In There, Saki!

Aya was engaging in some extra-curricular activities after her daily routines. Eri and Chihaya have already packed up and gone home for the day, but Aya asked the keys to Marrea training pool to stay around for a bit more. Recently, Aya was noting her body as lighter than ever, and liked the feeling of every ounce of fat being shaven off her body and replaced by lean muscles. She was already fairly underweight for her height and age group, but much more muscular - like a formula race car. And it was not just the optics, too. Aya decided to dive into the pool's deep end - and after a few minutes, she understood that the previous strain in her diaphragm and the urge to breathe was gone. In fact, she was so comfortable that did not even realize that she was holding her breath. Another minute passed. And another. She marveled at her own development, but then felt this change to be very normal. Maybe I had become something else. A fish. A mermaid. But who cares? This is what it takes to beat Saki, and how much I grow during the process almost didn’t matter. Aya smiled underwater, proud of herself and the newly acquired sense of invincibility.

I can be here forever. See you soon, Saki.

Yes....and no one can beat me! (Saki)

If Aya does win the match, which, needless to say, is far from a foregone conclusion, how do we think the Shrine Maiden will respond? Personally, I don’t see Saki conceding until she reaches her limit and blacks out, and at that point the girls would most likely be far too deep for a rescue, possibly past 200 meters. True, they all have a stake in this now, but the cousins’ freedive for pleasure. The young Maiden, meanwhile, dives both in search of someone else and to fulfill the role bestowed upon her. The way I see it, losing to the Yaeyama-Maru duo could, unfortunately, serve to push Saki over the edge.
