Sasha Acrylic Painting

I think I'm getting a better grasp on this whole idea of painting in acrylic.  This one's done in fluid acrylic on cold-press illustration board.  I incorporated a lot of changes in my thinking this time.  The biggest was probably switching from painting from dark to light, as I do with markers, to painting from light to dark.  Other big changes include a big effort to be more gentle with the brush, instead of swinging it like an axe, and better organization of the individual painting stages.

The original is Ebay item # 282444867086.

Yeah, admittedly, I'm a big fan of peasant tops for the ladies. I think this has been my most successful attempt to date of transferring my methods with markers over into acrylic. For my next stunt, I'll attempt to crank up the saturation and values and see what happens.

Really like the color scheme on this one, very much in tune with the season. I agree with Doom about the gradations, there are some pretty good ones here. I also think the cool washes in the shadow areas are working well. You know, all those years of working with the markers (colors and values) is paying off in these paintings. It's nice to see your marker "paintings" evolving well into acrylic paintings (yeah, I still see some of your marker pieces as full on paintings, especially some of the ones you've done for me). Speaking of the color scheme here, perhaps doing an acrylic version of the last Maisey egg hunt piece for the practice may be cool, as it would go right along with the spring-like colors...I don't know, just an idea. And as for Sasha here, it's nice to see the low cut peasant blouse, skirt and of course the panties...it all creates a lovely sense of vulnerability. Sometimes clothes do make the woman, or at least the ambience, eh?

Thanks! I'm pretty sure I don't know anything about the process either, but at least I'm finally moving forward.

Oh, I'm still a long way from every being as good as the big guys. But I do think it has a nice vintage pin-up look.

Surreal Vargas ?

Coming along nicely, your painting. I mean, I know nothing about the process, but even I can see this is a far cry from your first few attempts at it. Well done!

Thanks, Doom! I feel like I can actually move forward now. I think I'll try hot press board again for the next one, and maybe some more saturated colors. If it doesn't work, at least I have something to go back to, now. Been waiting since the 1990s to finally make progress with this.

Yes, what the good doctor said! Definitely going in the right direction here. There's even few really nice gradiations here, like the armrest shadow and her left boob!

Thanks! I'll admit that I'm actually more pleased with this than I've been with anything in quite a while. Fixed lots of problems this time.

Definitely getting better and better with acrylics! :-)
