Sophie in 11" x 17" Acrylic

Well, I'll admit that the gold color I used for Sophie's hair seemed more red than blonde until it dried, but overall I think I'm getting better control over the paint.  I'll see if I can't get a couple more colors ordered along with some more board.  I hope people don't mind too much that I've increased the starting prices on these paintings, but they do cost a lot more in materials to produce.

This one is Ebay item# 222553318334, and I've posted some work-in-progress photos over at www.behindandysdames.com.

Thanks for checking it out! I'm glad you dig it, and thanks for the analysis. I feel like I'm getting somewhere with painting, I'm just not sure exactly where we're going yet. Still investigating different combinations of techniques and materials, looking for some kind of groove to settle into.

I'd add my two cents worth, but Severian pretty well summed this one up.

Yeah, some acrylics can be squirrelly when they dry down. I recall doing little tests when I was using them regularly, way back when. At any rate, I think Sophie still reads as a redhead...she's just been spending time out in the sun, it being summer and all! Indeed, if I didn't know better, I "might" assume her red cheeks were due to sunburn... I like where you are going in these paintings. I think you are becoming more confidant in how you are using the paint, especially in how you are applying it in layers. Light and color is bouncing around more readily due to this, which really livens up the work, especially in the reflected light (the warm skin tones bouncing off the black armbinder is a good example). Works even better in person. As far as this Sophie piece is concerned, I think you really nailed it. What stands out for me are the proportions of her figure (less cartoony), the flesh tones (the texture of the board adds to the realism there too, I think), and the aforementioned handling of the layers of paint. I also like how her arms are suspended from her elbows, which allows her lower arms/hands to come back down, creating a nice arc and strengthening the composition. The way her figure and the stool function as one unit works well too. Her outfit is handled well too, where it lays on the stool and then falls over it, and how the frills frame her pleasingly heavy breast(s). The look on her face conveys several emotions as well...desire, apprehension, satisfaction, willingness and submission...complex, and not easy to do in one piece! You have a way of creating a wonderful sense of sweet and willing vulnerability in your figures that is spot on display with Sophie here, all with very positive energy to boot. Bitchin', man!

Thanks!

Much appreciated!

Thanks!

Still I think they are pencil and marker before I actually read the title. Very well done!
