Maisey & Kelli in 11"x14" Acrylic

I decided to try something a bit different today.  I wanted to keep the look of my regular works, but fully painted in acrylic in on big 11" x 14" cotton illustration board in a nice warm tone.  Truth of the matter is, the company that makes the markers I use is having manufacturing problems again.  We went through this once before, but the current "drought"  of ink refill bottles has been going on for a year now.  I've been stocked up for a while, but my stash is dwindling.  I'm considering upgrading the bulk of my work to actual paintings like this one, so that I'm no longer relying on the product of one specific company to do my job.  How does it look?

The high-resolution version of this piece is now uploaded to behindandysdames.com.

The original art for this is available for sale here: andysdames.bigcartel.com

Thanks! Looks like it might be two steps forward and one step back with this, due to the time it takes, but I'll keep after it.

I like the way the sepia tone and the somewhat softer shading give the piece a bit of a dream-like quality. I'm totally on-board to see what kind of other effects you can achieve in this medium or others that interest you.

I understand! No problem, and my wife and I appreciate your support over the years. I might go ahead and open a SubscribeStar account (or Pixiv- I don't know much about it), but I'll have to sit down and look into it. Meanwhile, I'm curious to know more about this "anime ban." Is there a link you can give me for more information on this? Thanks again!

Well... you're not wrong. And thanks for the feedback! The painted piece is strikingly bigger and heavier in person than the marker pieces, but I haven't figured out how to communicate that yet. Maybe some short-distance photos with brushes nearby, as the kids do these days.

Yeah, this is kind of what I'm thinking, as well. I've often made efforts to try and learn entirely different methods, but this gives me options to build onto what I've already developed, I think.

Thanks for the feedback, Rob! Good points to consider.

I compared it to some ink-based works and honestly I noticed no dramatic difference. I say go for it. It will broaden your artistic shoulders. Besides I KNOW that you WANT to go full paint...

I like it. More than anything else, I think it represents wider possibilities and directions for the work to go in. Just the possibilities with blending values is pretty exciting, let alone opportunities to play with muted colors and temperature fluctuations. And of course there is always the option to go with full color if any given piece calls for it. Another instance where outside circumstances can end up influencing and informing the work, in the process causing it to evolve within parameters you have already set up.

I like the warmer tone for the more ‘fun’ aspect - which is something I’ve enjoyed with your work. But this appears a bit... heavy on the sepia, as well as warm? Or perhaps instead of warm. Which might have its own uses for some of the single character poses, which would look good with this. So definitely a good product and worth expanding into, but it lacks some of the colour free cleaner lines of your other works, which also have their merits!
