Yep. He might have been talking only about the welds. Which would be great too! Huh... interesting thought about the "square holes" ring! My guess with the nose cone is the same as yours, but I am REALLY careful about saying anything about it on my episodes. It can only go wrong. If I am right, I'll be flamed anyway while noone knows yet and if I am wrong, the flaming won't stop... So, less oppinion and more facts. Thank you very much for your feedback! Sammy! I 100% agree. Let's just hope, that NASA is not too much forgiving. In the end, it could endanger lives and we don't want to see that. Other than that, 2020 has a lot of stuff coming! Starships, Rovers, Astronauts, our "away mission"! It will be great! :D

Hey Felix, Wow 2020, a big year ahead and a great WAI episode to start the year off. I am still adamant that the certification regime for the Commercial Crew Development program is not consistence and is favorable towards Boeing’s Starliner with check boxes not being ticked off along the way. I feel that SpaceX are methodically going about the overall Commercial Crew Development in a way that that their relentless pursuit for excellence and safety will be rewarded in due course and the honor of delivering humans from US soil into space by a private company will be their crowning moment (First). 🚀

Quite a fun video. So, here’s the feedback. At 2:48 Elon may have been refering only to the mass of the welds, which really adds up. The dome segments look heavier than Mk1, not lighter. He wasn’t addressing SN1 as a whole in this tweet. Also, the mass given in Sept for Mk1 was more like 230t, not 200, IIRC. (Sorry, running late, can’t check this figure.) Nosecone: there’s a slight chance it will be used for a vertical hop test. Mount it on the tank section of SN1, launch and study the aerodynamic flows around the top and bottom elonerons. A relatively low hop, with no transition to horizontal flight. Can be done while building the actual nosecone for SN1, and risks only half of SN1. SpaceX engineers may be going for a slightly more cautious approach, not totally all up testing. Lastly: yes, the square holes cannot have been test/practice cuts, are done crudely. Perhaps there so some part of a process can be observed, perhaps the ring is slightly smaller and can be used for this inside the Starship assembly.
