WAI RAW KSC Special

Hey all,

here is some still unedited footage of our tours at KSC. This is the Crawler way and the VAB.

Would have loved to be on that bus with you!

It was so good to meet you there. Thank you for sharing some time with me! :)

It was a pleasure meeting you last Saturday evening at your meet and greet event at Shiloh's restaurant. I had a safe drive back home across the state to Tampa. That was a 124 mile road trip each way and it was worth it to get to meet and talk with you. I wish you and Sammy the best for the rest of your stay in the cape area and keeping my fingers crossed that you will be able to witness the CRS-20 launch and nearby booster landing.

Hope you enjoy your time out there - best wishes

I've been out there 4 times myself, but don't remember taking that route. You have a fantastic image stabilizer on your camera

Good footage, glad to see you got to take the bus tour. Good luck with the rest of your visit.

'Crawler way' is like memory lane for Nasa. Awesome stable footage there Felix;)

Awesome story! Thanks for sharing!

And the Shuttle launch was pretty darn impressive even from the distance from which we got to watch it by the Apollo museum.

The story behind that APC in the clip is truly fascinating. In it sat the fire crew tasked with being first on scene if a fire broke out during a Shuttle launch. They were the closest humans to the vehicle, other than the astronauts inside the vehicle. To qualify to be part of the firefighting crew at-the-ready inside that APC, you needed to have served as a firefighter on submarines. The even more interesting piece of trivia is that the APC had one empty seat. Being invited to watch a Shuttle launch from that empty seat was probably one of the largest favors one could receive in those days. Far fewer spectators got to watch Shuttle launches from that seat and that distance than astronauts flew on the Shuttle. I talked with one of the few who got to have that experience when I was invited by NASA to watch a Shuttle launch (though not from the APC :-) What I gathered from our conversation was that this was a once-in-a-lifetime type experience.

Enjoy your time in the U.S., Felix!
