2023-09-25 22:58:09 +0000 UTCI'm the exact same way Nigel like whatever version I hear first will always be my favorite like they have a song called Circus (idk if you've reacted to that yet) which is originally in Japanese and then they made a Korean ver. and the Japanese one just hits different. I'll still listen to the English version at least once just to get a better idea of what they're saying and what the lyrics mean but then I go right back to the original.

I am one who tends to only like the version I heard first, although Levanter & Domino eng ver are the exception, as I love love love both the Korean & English ones. But Double Knot choreo is still my favorite skz choreo to this day. Watch the original dance practice if you haven't seen it- it is effing 🔥

I also feel with this song it was due to some of their lack in English skills at this point. The raps hit much much harder in Domino English because they were way more skilled in the language then. I think Chan even said in an interview he had to slow the raps down here.

2023-08-16 11:24:27 +0000 UTCI get it to an extent. The only thing is I never get that disconnect between the Korean and English versions. My disconnect is between Korean and Japanese skz songs. (If I hear a skz song in Japanese first the Korean version sounds weird to me and vice versa.)

It has to do with skzlore, which is very difficult to understand if you don’t get certain movies in the Marvel universe. Its a lot of stuff with clones and originals. Watching a video may help. This TikToker help me understand, their name is @exstayshi. Also Domino English ver is really good and one of the only English ver I can listen to.

2023-08-16 02:26:09 +0000 UTCI think it is normal to like a song more in the original language it was composed in or in the language you first heard the song. They have songs that they wrote in Korean but then first put it out in Japanese and I tend to like the Japanese version best because it is how I first fell in love with the song. Plus their song, more than others, really are composed very intentionally to make every sound, sample, vocal, ad lib come together and contribute to the texture of the music so when a word changes or causes the vocal to sound a bit different it sounds like a completely new mix of the song.

Of course the song is re-released with 8 members in Korean, but I want to say this video is the only video of the ot8 version even if it’s in English. Also probably for the choreo.

Not to analyse too far but I think English is a rounder language compared to Korean which is more sharper and that’s why it doesn’t hit the same. But I definitely love the boys’ effort because except our Aussie duo none of them are english native speakers so shout out to them. And like other Stays said the best English version for me is Domino bc they were more « experienced » than Double knot and the way the rap is delivered is as strong as the original version ✨✨✨

2023-08-15 22:27:34 +0000 UTCYeah I absolutely get it and I agree, once I hear a song it throws me off in another language and I always feel so bad cause I know the work they had to put into translating and pronunciating. But it's just what your ear gets used to so even if you tell yourself to try and like it, it's just not the same. It happened to me with so many skz songs, since they have contracts with the U.S. and Japan they often do these alternative versions, but I just stick with the first version I hear be it the original or the translated one, it's just about what I'm used to.. All that said the only songs I can hear both versions of are Slump, Domino and omg Levanter🥺, surprisingly also The Sound korean ver. which came out months after the original Japanese one.
