If you ever have the misfortune to wander deep in the lost desert of Anu’raak, you might stumble upon the final resting place of Ykitwi Kaofeka, last of the Kaofeka dynasty. You see, there was a kingdom where that desert stands now, and that kingdom had a series of tyrannical rulers. Having ruled the area for centuries untold, the Kaofeka dynasty met its end through rebellion, as all tyrants must. Once the final empire loyalist had been killed, the rebels entombed the emperor alive, and cursed him to suffer in the sealed sarcophagi for eternity. And there he lays to this day, unable to press his will on the world. Except….well, rumors are starting to circulate that something’s happening amidst the swirling sands. Travelers that pass near it report terrible nightmares of a figure screaming in the dark, and a booming thunder like sound echoing from the top of the pyramid. Maybe you can figure it out, and get your hands on the massive treasure he’s supposed to be buried with. Good luck…..you’ll need it.
As your PCs enter, they will find evidence of former tomb robbers. There are traps near the entrance that have been triggered, dry bones litter the ground in the sightline of a statue. There are broken urns with anything of value scavenged. But there are also traps that have not been set off. Near one statue of a sphinx, there is a large silver platter covered in loose precious stones. What happens when they remove one, change the weight, and set off that trap? Will they make their way along the north corridor and set off the dart traps embedded in the wall statues? Will they try and pry open the lids of the servant/slave sarcophagi?
This map was designed at a 40x40 grid, but presented gridless so you can size it to whatever you need.
