Update: Current & Future Plans
Added 2020-10-26 21:21:15 +0000 UTCWarning this is a bit long winded, apologies in advance!
I want to start this off by expressing the depths of gratitude I feel for my long time Patrons. Your dedication to helping my numbers climb and sticking with me in times that were quite frankly depressingly hard for me to even keep going. Thank you! I love, and I mean LOVE creating maps for others to enjoy. That is the plus side of making this content, its something I love doing.
The issues that creates stress for me is just the astronomical amount of time that goes into each and every map-pack I create. I would have less issue with the amount of time it cost if that time was being compensated for in more then just the satisfaction of creating things I love ( I did the math, I shouldn't have, minimum wage would be a significant hourly raise for me). I'm a family man, and free time with my family is the most important thing in my life. Because of this, it has come time for me to draw a line in the sand. That line being a set amount of income every month to support this adventure. So I'm going to be making some changes to my content and how its delivered in hopes this will lead to more content and content delivered in a way that encourages growth.
Now all that being said, the question is how will this impact Living Realms and most importantly you my Patrons. Well, for current Patrons none of the changes will negatively impact you. Hopefully the most noticeable change will be more content and at a better value then non-patrons.
Changes starting December 2020:
All future map-packs will be time exclusive for my current Patrons.
- When I release a map-pack it will be given access to all paying Patrons via Patreon Messenger and Email.
- The only way for anyone to possibly get access to these Map-Packs in the future will be through purchasing the Map-Pack individually for a significantly higher rate then what my Patrons pay. (This will be possible through a separate website I am creating to sell map-packs individually on and I will also start selling some packs on some other map store fronts.)
What will new Patrons Receive on sign up?
- The first Map-Pack they contribute to.
- All map-packs released before December of 2020.
- I might occasionally do a sign up bonus promotion that gets them access to a bonus map on sign up.
What and how much content should you expect every month as a Patron?
- 2 Map-packs
- Animated Tokens (NPC, Monsters, Player Characters, ex.)
- Map Overlays (rain, fire, spell effects, smoke, ex.)
- Remote VTT compatible/friendly versions (Roll20, FoundryVTT)
None is this set in stone yet. I would love to hear feedback if anyone has any.
Now that we talked about the future I want to layout what to expect this October and November. As most of you know I have been working on creating Xanathar's Lair going on a year now. With a total of 5-packs being released already, I refuse to ask my long time Patrons to pay for more then 6 packs to bring Xanathar's Lair to fruition.
As of today Oct. 26 I have Rooms 1-32 complete; leaving rooms 33-36 left to complete. So I have 3 rooms to go, 13 maps to record and process, and multiple tokens to finish up. Because of this, I decided that instead of rushing everything to try to force a release out this month, I'm going to take the time to go back through the entire lair to touch up and unify each and every room of Xanathar's lair to release it all in one last pack. I've put a year of my life into this little project, I refuse to rush the end. So expect no charges this month... unless I squeeze the library out instead....... hmm
Ok, sorry for this mess of a post. If you have any questions please ask! I will inform you when I update my main page that hopefully breaks all this down in a more clear way.
My sincere gratitude, Nathan
