Dev Log #37 - Date Set!
Added 2023-06-09 22:00:04 +0000 UTCHi all, welcome back to another weekly dev log. This week, I'll be discussing the big release date (fixed!) as well as the usual progress updates, so let's get started!
Release date fixed
The release date is now fixed for 23rd June 2023 for the Alpha release of Episode 1 Part 2. While this date is definitely on the later side of the previous release window, I'm confident that the extra week of development (i.e. instead of releasing on 16th June 2023) can be used to full effect to polish up and refine the game in terms of dialogue and flow.
This release date's motivation will be better explained within the progress update following this!
Progress so far
In terms of render progress, I'm quickly moving into the halfway point of Day 7, and currently have one major scene and one minor scene left to pose and render. Day 6 is also fully rendered and thus this leaves me with just the Day 7 scenes in my queue before rendering fully concludes for E1P2.
In terms of dialogue and the game, it is developed up to the halfway mark of Day 6 and has been put on the back burner for a bit as my main focus is to finish up the last bits of rendering and then fully change my focus to developing the game to its conclusion.
What's the plan?
The plan for the next 14 days leading up to release is to take 3 to 4 days to focus on the last scenes of Day 7 and leave it to render. Once that concludes, I'll be fully focused on developing the game as the Day 7 renders processes, allowing me to join everything up in the meantime and allowing me to playtest the game, all in the span of 10 to 11 remaining days.
Update on tasks left
As usual, percentage updates are replaced with more meaningful updates of what's left as the light at the end of the development tunnel comes into view.
What's left in descending level of importance (i.e. the first takes priority):
- One major scene and one minor scene left to pose for and render.
- The remainder of Day 6 dialogue along with Day 7.
- Gameplay additions such as Journal entries and mini-game (optional to play) implementation.
- Playtesting and bug fixes.
A short list, thankfully, but all equally important to ensure that the game comes out in the most complete form in terms of content and quality!
