This is the an 80’s/90’s baseball movie made for adult children, and I love it. Major League has many faults, but it also has many fun moments. Rated R version of The Sandlot basically. Although, I think The Sandlot is actually a better film. There is something just fun about this movie. And some of the best moments come from the double called shot, desperation bunt, the tired knees caving, and Willie Mays Hayes crossing the plate. It allows everyone to have their moment. And the ultimate end of the film is that we only know the Indians win the pennant. It ends with nothing past this. This is one of the aspects I appreciate most about this film. It is a sports comedy, and although it wasn’t the first, nor was it the first to carry an R rating, I think it performed better with the younger market than adults. I think I saw it when I was 10, and that’s because most parents didn’t seem to realize it was rated R. The Bad News Bears was rated PG which came out in 1976, and that has far more serious subject matter, massive alcohol abuse, some bad language and other references involving pretty young kids. So, I think most parents thought it was like The Bad News Bears. In any case, this film hits hard with people of my generation, and I think it lead to a lot memorable sports films both comedic and dramatic, that targeted a younger audience, especially since Field Of Dreams came out the same year. There is good and bad there. Although we ended up with films like The Sandlot, The Mighty Ducks, A League Of Their Own and Cool Runnings after this film along with a crap ton of more comedic and dramatic sports films mid to late 90’s into the 2000’s, we also ended up with Air Bud, Angels In The Outfield, MVP Most Valuable Primate. Regardless, we have been blessed with a lot of unbelievable films related to sports, since it’s time, and it’s success helped open that door, and capture and audience.

Stick with Snipes and watch "White Men Can't Jump." Fun fact: Wesley Snipes was actually much slower than the two extras he sprinted by. They tried having the other two run slower while looking like they were running fast, they tried different camera angles, but nothing looked real. So they ended up doing it in slow motion.
