Dev Log #81 - Free-roam work continues!
Added 2024-06-21 22:00:05 +0000 UTCHi all! Welcome back to another weekly dev log! As the development chugs along, this post will similarly be slightly shorter like last week's dev log, so let's get to it!
Free-roam development
The development of the scenes in the free-roam is well underway, with many more renders coming in this week as I'm more certain of their direction as well as variation, when before it was all planning and a simpler skeletal structure.
This free-roam intends to bring in a new gameplay mechanic that I have always wanted to include which is a full re-iteration of the "journal" concept that was first introduced in the Prologue: mainly the part where you are taught how to use the journal to figure out key choices. While this first iteration served its purpose at the time of creation, I believe that it can be taken to the next level. After all, a mystery game isn't complete without a little hands-on and intense discussion!
I am aiming to have the bulk of the free-roam work complete by the end of June, allowing me to work on the scenes after as well as refining the free-roam itself!
This free roam aims to be the most replayable and varied so far. As mentioned last week, many previous choices will be core to how this free roam plays out. But don't take my word for it, take it from this example below!

July side story development and June custom renders!
Alongside the free roam, I will also start working on the Suyin side story that was recently voted on as well as work on delivering the June custom renders before the month's end!
------------------------------------------- E3 WEEKLY PROGRESS BREAKDOWN -----------------------
Story: 50% done. Focusing on renders for free-roam, however skeleton/framework of subsequent scenes is set up (just not fully explored). No change from last week.
Renders: 15% done. The current render count is 930, which is 245 more renders than last week. Up 5% from last week.
Dialogue: 15% done. The focus will shift to this next week. No change from last week.
Game Playability: 10% done. Same as dialogue, no change from last week.
--------------------------------------------- END OF BREAKDOWN -----------------------------------------
With a lot of things going on at once, it would be prudent of me to keep things short and sweet here as I resume the development and preparations of all the things to come! Stay tuned for more!
Stay safe and healthy and I'll see you all next week!
