Thatch Roof Voting

yeah don't reprint the roof, it just takes a second for me to make a new plug, I'll double check alignment on the others. The original plug will be fine for roof that will work on older buildings. Let me know if there are othere issues. I can't exactly make out what you are saying above.

OK thanks but so as not to print two new roofs and have to throw away two old roofs. I am going to modify the rc -plug for this house

Hi Rob, thanks for sharing your thoughtful views on the thatches. I think we can get there in another month on #4. I suspect we'll end up offering one for graphic appeal and another for realism. I did just finish re-doing that chunky -40% thatch and went ahead and knocked it down just a touch more. I'll see how it prints in the morning I guess.

None of the thatches look completely right too me. Thatch 1: - About the right amount of texture for the scale but the texture should be going more down slope. - The ends look too professional. A master thatcher would get the ends this even, but peasants without lots of training would probably not. Thatch 2: - I like the look but the scale looks off. The scale of the reeds look about 2” in diameter in the Full Size and about 1” in diameter in the -40 %. - It would be interesting to see this at scaled down more. Thatch 3: - I like that this look like a less professional thatcher did this. - Bit it needs more texture. The texture level of thatch 4 might look good on this. Thatch 4: - I like the level of texture. It looks reasonably in scale. - It also looks too even and professional for a peasants house.

No I had not. I looked it up. I guess that would be a thatch with very long uniform strands. I'll get it on the list and mess around with it, looks it it could offer a way to work in some rope with the long tubes of bundled water reed. Thanks for the suggestion, I have looked at a bunch of it but didn't realize it was it's own thatch type.

Have you ever thought of doing Reed Roofs, an old English form of Roofing?

Alice, thanks for voting and thanks for the thoughtful comments. It looks like 2 &4 may carry the day but do not worry. You will get a set of 1's this month since they are done. The way they are modeled, I have actual control over each strand on roof 4 so it can get better. Thatch one is done in a way where it is as good as it will ever be. So in the long run 4 will end up being good even though it is now lacking some things you are seeing in one..

Thatch 2 (either) is great. Then it comes down to thatch 1 or thatch 4. I like them both, but I think 1 has a slight edge as it has better detail than 4. I feel like 4 is a less-detailed version of 1.

I like thatch 2 and 4. As suggested a bit more detail and unevenness along the edge on 4 . On 2 less evenness along the top edge; 2 looks perfect for jungle huts though.

I like Thatch 2 (both versions) as roofing material. Both are very nice and would make very interesting and eye-appealing table terrain. If I am looking for a -thatch- roof Thatch roof 4 is good. As an aside, I would definitely -not- do Thatch 3. I find it very unappealing and would not print it.

2 looks more like wood than thatch to me, even the 40% one. It'd do decently as that, though. Agree with rawr7 here, option 4 could be good with a bit more work on making it look a little less perfectly even and flat-edged.

Thanks for voting rawr7, It will have that little extra detail. I made a poor choice on the tile alignment and it ended up washing out a couple areas,

Thanks Nick, That is how I voted as well. Number 4 was made with little care so there is space there to make it even better, it looks like it will be a winner. I'll redo the thick thatch with the -40% for this month. #4 will have to wait till next month. I like number 1 for sheds or tiny stuff and number 3 for a more run down roof full of holes and exposed beams.

I wish four had just a little more detail, then I'd choose it.\

I’m a fan of 2 at 40% and 4. A little more 4 as it seems cleaner and more organized.
