CHOOSE YOUR CHRISTMAS PLAYTHROUGH
Added 2022-12-09 05:08:10 +0000 UTCFor many years, we've had this tradition of playing Katamari games on christmas week. And this was a good tradition.
Then we ran out of good Katamari games. So now we need a new tradition.
My original thought was "I've got it! Mario games." It's a solid new tradition candidate: it's peppy, it's nostalgic, it's full of opportunities for amusing failure, it's not super long... plus it would take a rather long time to run out of decent Mario games. We'd start out with Super Mario World this year, maybe Yoshi's Island next year... it'd be perfect.
But then I also realized "wait, there are still three Shovel Knight campaigns we haven't done. Shoot. That would also work." And it would! They're peppy, they evoke nostalgia in spades, they're full of opportunities for amusing failure, none of them are long AND they've even got little narrative continuity hooks between the bunch. Granted, we'd run out of these a lot sooner, but that's 2025 Dan's problem.
I went back and forth about this for hours before remembering: "Wait. I have patrons I can outsource this indecision to."
So I now task you with choosing your 2022 christmas gift and our new holiday playthrough tradition: shall we embark on a new era of Little Plumber Boy or The Knight Before Christmas?

I think I'm gonna have to go Shovel Knight for now, but skip Plague Knight and just go to the other two :honk: Jokes aside, I'm sure either choice will be great, and I'm immensely looking forward to the new Christmas tradition :)

2022-12-09 09:55:32 +0000 UTCI went with Mario. I love the bonus animation talk we get in PlayFrame videos, and seeing how Mario's animation evolves over time could be *excellent*. Plus, you could even slip in spin-offs like Super Mario RPG, or a Mario and Luigi game. Shovel Knight could also be fun, but that would be a shorter tradition, and you can still use that as filler content between your extremely long main playthroughs (Nier, Horizon, and a little indie title called Elden Ring :HONK:).

What about carrying on the tradition of Katamari in spirit, where you aren't restricted by genre or series but instead play games that are your comfort food like Katamari was. Or even use this as an excuse to play beloved games from your past like Chibi Robo and Shadow of the Colossus that don't take a lot of time to playthrough but are games you adore and want an excuse to try again and share the experience?
