Even more fiddling with the brush than before. The brush is close enough to my needs that I'm accepting of it, but it's texture is further enhanced by a Sharpen filter done in post-processing, which is a factor that has both pros & cons.
The sketch on the left is referenced from official art, which is a second attempt at the one I shared yesterday. I learned a few important things from this study.
- Form is incredible important. The form should be simple, but a strong understanding of value and 3-dimensional is vital. Shading can't be too muddy, otherwise the Sharpen filter will make the drawing too noisy. Gotta know where the light source is coming from.
- Bounce Light - it's one of the best ways to define the edge of the object, especially in shadow, as it creates a good dynamic between light and dark.
BotW's official art isn't uniform all over - as some drawings contain lineart, while others don't. The ones with lineart means shading can be even simpler, as the lines are helping to define the figure. Whereas the non-lined arts are super reliant on form, bounce art, and texture.
