Game Dev - MAY 2024 - #01
Added 2024-05-10 00:08:58 +0000 UTCGame Development Updates:
There have been a few updates made to the Beaumont game project over the last week, so allow me to tell you about some of it! Some things aren't worth sharing, but new assets are!
New Art Assets:
-

Axe
A simple axe, commonly used by hunters. It's hefty weight allows it to easily tear through most beasts - though some hunters expand its utility by throwing it. Travels in an upward arc before falling back to the ground.
This is a straightforward adaption of CV's axe, but with a unique skin. Costs 3 WP.

Razor Boomerang
Inspired by an old Hunter's tool, a long mace affectionately known as the "Pizza Cutter", these portable blades can easily tear through flesh when thrown. Unfortunately, they also posed a great risk after turning back for a return trip to their user.
Another straightforward adaption, this time of CV's Cross Boomerang. I'd like to refine its pathing a bit more in the future. Costs 3 WP to use. If caught, 1 WP will be refunded.
Axes are generic enough that I don't see too big of a problem using it. But the Cross Boomerang felt too thematic and iconic to Castlevania that I did not want to simply re-use it. I struggled to find a reasonable alternative for the longest time, but a saw blade felt badass enough (while also being a fun inside reference to Bloodborne).

A New Enemy Approaches! The Night Cloud!
An artificial organism that blends into the night sky & craves human flesh. Its transparent body makes it difficult to see, but keen eyes can observe a mass of pulsating organs just below the clear membrane encasing its body.
I previously showed this enemy off a while back (still using assets from Bloodstained), but now that it has custom artwork, it is considered officially implemented. Their pattern is simple - they will fly back and forth across the screen and drop a projectile on the player from above.

New Features:
-
Still a work-in-progress, but I've been wanting to add new tools to the level kit beyond what can be found inside a typical CV game. Like the Flipping Panels in Mario. It's a simple addition, but it might make for a fun (or devious) obstacle for players to keep track of while playing.
These objects are controlled by the player; activating & deactivating every time players jump.

As an aside, unrelated to game development...
I've scheduled a Dentist Appointment to look at my jaw and to determine if I need to see an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. It took longer than I'd have liked to find a dentist who will take me, but their Registration form was full of stuff like:
"Thank you for choosing [Practice Name], if you have questions, please contact the person listed: Contact Person Office Manager, Phone Number"
... They didn't update the template with actual information. Anyway, hopefully it goes smooth.
Anyway, don't forget to eat & sleep.

Whoa! I love these updates! Especially the Pizza Cutter! I knew MegaMan Stuff was gonna come through!
