Blog - Recent Thoughts

The Plan:

The next few days will be dedicated to producing this month's patron sketch requests. There are 6 requests remaining. I want to finish this up quickly so I can relax for the next few weeks.

Health Update:

I have an eye exam tomorrow and plan to consult with a specialist (concerning my jaw) next week. Next month might have some kind of interruption if I need to undergo any surgery, but hopefully I can still get some interesting work done and it doesn't debilitate me too badly.

Game Dev:

Progress took a sudden back-step as I recently discovered a bunch of small collision problems. I need to rewrite some of the system and even change some of the numbers. There are a bunch of niche physics interactions that are not desire-able so I'm focusing on fixing that right now.

Art Talk:

I think it's worth talking about some of my recent illustrations; both of which feel like they're just a tiny bit "more" than most of my sketches, even if they're less sexy. They are visually interesting, make use of evocative backgrounds, feature a variety of colours, and have good composition.

These works manage to be both simple and painterly in different places, though this statement is more true for the second piece, as I spent more time exploring. I'd like to do this more often.

My latest illustration also featured a total 11 bonus variants - which is a fun way to add value.

I expect neither of these will perform very well on social media, however.

Female Link Friday

I've been posting Female Link artwork every Friday for two months. While some of the artworks are drawn on the day OF posting, I'm still maintaining its consistency - which is good. That said, I am still approaching the project cautiously.

Still, I think it's being successful so far - low social media performance aside. I think it might be cool to have another project that is shared regularly, perhaps on another day of the week - but I am hesitant to give myself a bunch of new weekly responsibilities. Plus, I have to be mindful of other responsibilities taking time - like patron sketch requests, concept art, and my health.

Something to think about, I suppose.
