Around this time, last year, I introduced lapels to the collar of my Link's design, and I really liked how it looked -- it brought an element of flair to an otherwise simple design. I haven't done much with the idea since then, however. Just an assortment of drawings. So I figured I would bring the lapels back for this January!
I tried something new with the colouring & shading of this piece. Nothing revolutionary, just not something I do very often here.
You may notice that the shadows are comprised of 2 tones. It's obvious if you take a close look at the edges of the shadow masses, like on the breasts of the tunic. See that thin strip of a different hue along the edge of the shadow? A colour boomerang-like effect:
Local colour > vibrant shadow > darker shadow
It's better in some places than it is in others. This often creates a "banding" effect, which is typically not desirable. Something I will have to keep in mind should I do this again.
I think the hair came off looking a tiny bit too wet & reflective than I'd have liked in the darker bits, near the bottom right of her hair.
My inks are crisper than usual, which takes more time than I'd really like it to. I might try to maintain something closer to my usual energy with this style in the future.
Don't forget to eat & sleep.
