[Patron-Only Feed] A rather slow week, huh?

[EDIT: I added a twitter link to a 3D turnaround video of the FemLink model, with a sword & shield added.)

I generally don't like to leave you out of the loop for so long a time, so even though here's a quick Patron-Only Feed to update you.

I didn't draw very much this week, not before yesterday's stream anyway. There have been a few things tossed into the Dropbox Archive though - last week's NSFW Batch has not been integrated into the Archive for $7 Patrons, so feel free to check those out if you haven't yet.

What did I spend this week on?

I've spent more of the week WRITING than I have drawing, and I do feel a bit bad about it. The current schedule I've got set up is designed to allow me to bounce back in case I have a week of no work though, so we're going to be okay.

I previously mentioned having a handful of ideas for the Concept Art & Discussion thread, and I found it tricky to pick one, so I just fleshed them all out somewhat -- that took up time away from drawing, but it does mean we've got some ideas started for next month. As for this month's, it's going to be up a bit later than I wanted -- I wanted it for today, but it should be up within the next week, ideally in just a few days.

Between writing, researching about making comics, and Dreams, I've been a bit distracted.

I'm super excited about an idea I recently had for the Female Link comic, so I hope to talk about that soon, even if only a little!

What is Dreams?

MediaMolecule (the makers of LittleBigPlanet) just opened up Early Access to their newest game -- Dreams. Like their previous franchise, Dreams is not JUST a game, but a tool for creativity. More than ever before, they've created a system that allows you to create any type of game, whether it's Dark Souls (which I've seen) or Mario Bros (which I've also seen). Dreams is also a tool for creating art, as well, whether it's painting or sculpture.

As you can imagine, I've been spending a lot of my time on it this week. It has, admittedly, interrupted the flow of my usual workflow. But I hope you aren't too angry with me, because I've been using it to create! It's just really hard because it's 3D.

Sculpting in Dreams is surprisingly accessible, even for a Dualshock controller. It is, still, however, a lot of work... My first attempts ended in one of the most ugliest things I have ever had the misfortune to be witness to. I was probably making it too complicated.

I decided to go simple and render something a bit more stylized. Perhaps something more in line with the aesthetic of A Link Between Worlds?

Of course, she still needs her head & hair to be fixed up. There's something I enjoy about problem-solving.

I've gotten super sucked into LittleBigPlanet in the past, and I even tweeted about some of my attempts at creating a Zelda-like game in it. Only with Dreams, I have even more control, and I can actually have Link as the character. Perhaps I can use Dreams for further creative ventures in the future?

I'd love to make a Zelda -- and maybe a Castlevania 64-esque Elayne Beaumont?

EDIT: Here's a quick video turnaround of more progress made:

I think it's tricky for me to scale down the ambition of a project, even with the 3D model. It's too easy to get stuck in the details otherwise though, and the level of acceptable quality raises the more detailed I get, so it's even easier to fail. I'd have to definitely go simple with Elayne. The art in the image above does blend in, but it's not truly accurate to the style. There are too many polygons!

I think it would be cool to try, however. I will almost certainly never be in a position to make an Elayne Beaumont based on Castlevania 64 because 3D games are harder to make.

I've got some more thoughts to share about what might be next, and the Female Link comic, but I'd rather save it until AFTER the next Concept Art thread, so I can think about them a bit more.

Anyway, I really appreciate your support! I'm sorry I don't have anything more exciting to show this week, but I'll try to make up for it in the following week! Thank you!

Don't forget to eat & sleep.
