[Patron-Only Feed] Easing into June

Last month seemed to feature a lot of Elayne Beaumont content (and some brellomascot lewds), which was interesting. I wonder if “themed” months, in which we build the majority of our work around the subject of those months, could be cool. Like a “Linktober”.

I didn’t coin that phrase. That’s an actual thing. https://twitter.com/linktober

Relaxing

I took a few days this month to disconnect & relax. I did draw a little bit, but the focal point was to put work OUT of sight. I could make it last a few more days, but I don’t want to neglect my work & creative exploits. I think it might be a good idea to take more time to myself for relaxation though, so perhaps I could simply bring some of that into my day-to-day life.

The last few days have consisted of waking in the mornings, napping in the afternoons, and then some proper sleep shortly after midnight – and so on. That’s a nice general schedule, I just have to ensure that I don’t break it and become nocturnal. Again.

My waking hours haven’t had a lot of excitement in them; mostly a lot of chilling, doing nothing in particular. Though I did make some time for games, as I got my hands on Sekiro & the recent Crash Bandicoot Trilogy. It might be nice to spend my downtime doing more creatively enriching things, but I should take care not to obsess over my work again.

Better Communication

I typically try to keep my Patreon page clean.

The About Section is short and lets you get straight to the important stuff: the content. I’ve also reduced the amount of posts in a week, so there’s less to sift through as you try to see my more important posts – and even the posts of the other creators you support.

However, I’ve noticed that a few Exit Surveys mention that I wasn’t engaging like some patrons expect – which is fine if that’s a concern someone has. Though you SHOULD let me know BEFORE quitting so I could possibly do something about it and try to offer a better experience.

But perhaps the issue is simply not clearly communicating WHAT to expect.

By using Dropbox Showcase, perhaps I can go into greater detail of what one can expect from the experience I offer. I can dedicate ample screen space to each individual reward, explaining how they work and what they look like. Obviously, that won’t matter to a lot of you who are already pledged and KNOW what they look like – but it might just help new Patrons.

Dreams

I have not created in Dreams (PS4) for a few weeks now, and that bothers me.

I know I don’t have an obligation to make anything in Dreams, but I do enjoy the creative prospect it offers. I guess making bigger things is just intimidating, and it’s also not the most important type of content to you, the patron, who is mostly here for my illustration.

Not everyone has a PS4 either, so that does limit people’s ability to interact with the content in a meaningful way, if it’s something in which the experience is a big part of, anyway.

So, I guess it’s just been easy to neglect Dreams. Shame…

Expectations for this Month?

Now, because it’s so early, I don’t yet have a clear idea of what the rest of the month will look like. But I’ll use this opportunity to explain what is currently on my mind.

I’m still trying to take it easy, but E3 does start pretty soon, so I expect to try producing some sketches related to E3 and the games I foresee being shown. The first week should be fairly lax, but there will probably be an Early Access illustration, as I try to put one out every week.

Those E3 sketches should be made public on Twitter, by the way.

The focus of next week should be the first batch of NSFW sketches. I expect 2-3 batches this month, with each batch consisting of 4-5 sketches. That’s how they typically go.

Then the third week of the month is typically when I’d focus on the Concept Art & Discussion, so that should ideally be up around the 22nd of the month. I don’t know what the subject will be yet.

We're reaching the halfway point of the year, which means this is an excellent month to do some reflection. So expect some of that later on in the month.

Don't forget to eat & sleep.

Comments

Nothing in particular, I suppose. I guess I just feel differently about it than I used to. Though Sekiro wasn't quite what I was hoping for at the time, developers should be allowed to go in their own directions to advance their techniques and tell different kinds of stories. I still like the ideas behind FromSoft's games, so I shouldn't really be so opposed to new kinds of experiences just because they're handled differently. I was thinking about Otogi, an old FromSoft series on Xbox, and I had a craving for the Eastern aesthetic. I needed something to spend some time doing during my mini break because I was pretty bored too.

What/Who changed your tune about Sekiro? I remember you clearly saying you weren't interested.
