[Concept] The Dark Witch Queen

Last month, we explored a bit of the Beaumont setting's history by looking at some rough concepts about the Hero-Queen. This time, we return to this era of history with another character.

The Concept

Long before the rise of the Church, in the age of dragons & kings, the evils of magic were kept in check by a long line of kings & queens. Queen Ayn is a hero right out of a legend, so it's only appropriate that legend had a villain too; The Dark Witch Queen.

The Dark Witch warred with Queen Ayn for several years, driven by a desire to claim Ayn's kingdom for herself, possibly even ending the persecution of witches & magic in the land. Even were such a thing possible, it would've been short-lived, as the Church soon rose to prominence following the Hero-Queen's death and began to purge demons, vampires, and witches alike.

While Countess Karantos serves the role of the most noteworthy dark lord of the setting, the Dark Witch predates her, effectively acting as the dark lord to her own era.

The Design

The Dark Witch should feel like a very dark person, but I am hesitant to express that using the colour black. So instead, I've tried using colours like blue, violet, and red. I've taken care to de-saturate them so they aren't too exciting -- but perhaps not enough.

Interestingly, the colour violet has long been associated with the ideas of corruption and evil, perhaps due to its affiliation with royalty. That said, perhaps I should try for something more goth-like in the future. We'll have to see.

This character has always been connected with the Hero-Queen in lore, but this is the first time she's had a design attributed to her. As a result, I expect we'll see further development in the future -- the design is a little bland at the moment.
