Giga Mermaid
Added 2021-05-17 11:14:57 +0000 UTCThis month’s voting poll theme was “mermaids,” so patrons suggested & voted characters which fit that description. The winner was Giga Mermaid from Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.
Although I own the game and have yet to meet the character, I know she is a fan favourite! I’m generally unfamiliar with the Shantae franchise, so this artwork feels different from the work I’d usually create (subject & colour). A lot of my work features the same combination of hues, so having a different colour palette makes this artwork feel unique.
Additional Thoughts
I would’ve liked to create some variants, but this style of rendering is tough to have variants with. The relationships between layers is a bit more complex, so I’m limited in my execution. I might need to plan variant works early or simplify the style & process to be more modular.

I feel like the patron-involvement of the voting polls make them so much more gratifying than the sketch suggestions, where I am the sole arbiter of what gets drawn. Because I can be quite random about what "wins," whereas here, a larger number people genuinely appreciate your contributions.
