I rescued a baby common snapping turtle from my work. She was stuck in an equalization basin of a wastewater treatment plant and I have had her for 2 years now and she has been nothing but friendly. I have always held her the way you have in your video which she is small now so pretty easy to do. Her name is Fjord.

Before I became severely disabled I moved snakes, including rattlesnakes, off roads and away from human busy areas. I started age 14 and had to stop at 50. I’ve never seen a snapper on the road. I have moved other turtles. Cars and turtles don’t end well. Years ago hubby saw one while on patrol. He got it to bit down and hang on to his knight stick and moved it to a canal. He was concerned someone would either run over the snapper on purpose or turn the guy into soup…this was a big ole snapper…hubby is strong and really struggled to lift and carry him/her to the canal. He had no idea how to properly pick one up.

Part of the reason I decided to become a Patron was exactly that. I love learning about animals and their way of life. Clint, you are an excellent teacher and I really hope that you somehow find time to teach children either in your own facility or with guest classes in schools. You would be able to teach them so much in just a few hours and maybe sparkle their interest in animals too. Keep on going like this guys! Oh also, I need to know Clints diet 😂

2024-08-06 14:22:40 +0000 UTCPerhaps you should bring this topic up on the snapping turtle Facebook page. Also, the only person I know that has a full grown snapping turtle, and does public education with that turtle, carries him around the same way Clint carries the turtles.
