Early Access Video - Zoologist Reacts To Viral Animal TikTok Part 3

Hi Patrons, Jason here!

1.   Thank you so much for supporting Clint's Reptiles. You guys are amazing.

2.   As you have early access to these videos, please let us know if you catch any mistakes or export issues. They are bound to happen, and I would love to catch them before they get published for the unforgiving world to spot. You are our first line of defense!

3.   Sometimes we need to schedule the release of a video. When that happens, YouTube forces us to change the video status Unlisted to Private. Unfortunately, that cuts off your access. We try to delay this until Friday night (Mountain time zone), so be sure to utilize your early access before then.

4.   I try to get these Early Access Videos uploaded as early as Monday every week. Trying to maximize the early in Early Access Videos :). That doesn't always happen, but that is my goal.

5.   Comments in Patreon = I will see. Comments in YouTube = Clint will very likely see (and sometimes me too).

6.   You guys rock!

We have a lot of five-lined skinks where I live. I've had to rescue quite a few of them from the cats (along with garter snakes). As much as I love cats, the murderous little beasts can wreak a lot of havoc.

The snapping turtle section: I wanted to scream at the guy in the hat in the water. HOW RUDE, show some respect how you are handling the animal, good grief. He clearly wanted to show how close he could put his face to the turtle and us to be so impressed. I thought he just looked stupid and acted stupider. (poor grammar intentional) And yes, everything I learned about handling turtles I learned from Clint - much of it last week. :D

Hi Clint, huge fan! I made a tweet re: Panthera phylogeny, can you somehow confirm its veracity? Thanks! https://x.com/xanoxthearc/status/1814034824459665428?t=nxEBbFNx_dNJpMa11zT8Dw&s=19

This is a great series, can't wait to watch it ^-^. I have an unrelated question though! I have started painting a series of oil paintings using animals as reference, and then naming the painting the species name of the animal. I just painted a deer or elk and I can't tell which it is :< Can you help me identify it's species?

Turtle interaction: Know what it is, ensure it's not vulnerable/endangered and if possible, know how to handle best what it is. Beyond that, use care not to scare, and consider any negative reaction on its part. I've handled eastern box turtles, and I'm prrrrrety sure at this point I was handling a wood turtle multiple times as well, back in the 80s/early 90s, prior to their vulnerability, and now endangerment. As to dogs, I agree on the owner's consent/permission. This past week, I helped a nervous owner with 2 rambunctious kids, and one super anxious and nervous pit bull mix. She didn't know how to handle him, other than aggressively herself. And, if I didn't know better, could have assumed it was a dangerous animal, and opted out. Instead, I asked her if she could ask the boys to leave a moment, and then give the dog a chance with me, and she did. All I had to do was get down on my own hands and knees, across the room, and my head, and extend a hand - seen How to Train Your Dragon? Yeah. It worked wonders. The tail came up, wagging, and my hand got slobbered. I looked up, and the dog looked a bit confused and nervous yet. From there, I waited and let the dog lead the interaction. It was a great transformation from a teeth-baring, leash-tugging, tailed-down barking beast, to totally relaxing, and reacting very gently to my own responses, tone, and words. Turns out the dog actually DID know how to sit, lie down, and shake hands. He also really wanted to play tug of war with toys, ... AND... reacted to how rough (or NOT rough) I was playing and it was a great time. We called the kids back out, and the dog stayed fairly calm. No aggression, for sure. And the dog clearly wanted me to stay involved with the playing, which was awesome. I look forward to my next visit there.

Snapper question: Should humans not try to approach a random turtle in hopes of petting & loving on them? That woman was no real danger to the turtle but DAMN! (I’m a serious animal lover but not into interacting with them, even someone else’s dog unless their human sanctions it.)

On the one-eyed goat, is there anything a vet could do to treat them, any potential surgery? I know a few goat lovers & goat rescues; they love their goats and wouldn’t want to lose them. πŸ’§

Are jellyfish cooler than octopuses though? I love both but would rather have neither available for general public aquariums. Probably seahorses as well & definitely not sea dragons. So gorgeous though.

YES I absolutely love these videos!!
