Someone was calling for him. In the back of his mind came the vaguest recognition that whoever was screaming sounded terrified. He knew that he should respond, that he should reassure them but couldn’t tear his gaze away from the beautiful creature before him. Soaked boots braced on a jagged, broken piece of wood, jutting out from the destroyed section of the sinking ship, Izuku clung tightly to…something. He wasn’t sure what he was holding onto. It was wet and slippery underneath the palm of his hand but he couldn’t remember what it was he had grabbed to keep himself from plummeting down into the foamy surf.
Perched on one of the many large, jagged rocks that had torn a hole in the ship was a creature from myth. He had long heard sailors tell tall tales of these beautiful, dangerous being. Man from the waist up. From the waist down was a long, powerful looking tail – not one of a fish, as would have been the case if this creature was a mermaid but rather, that of a snake. Coiled and curled tightly around the rock, anchoring the being in place. Pearlescent scales glimmered in the dim light. Deep indigo eyes gazed calmly up at him. Framing his handsome face was a mess of dark purple hair.
Despite the chaos happening all around him, the siren was focused intently on him. The moment he had met those vibrant eyes, he was bewitched, unable to move, speak, think. In the back of his mind came the quietest pulse of panic, accompanied by the frantic tone of his reason, screaming at him to flee. For his entire life, he had heard cautionary tales of the Sirens: terrible, man-eating beasts who lured sailors into the depths with their sweet voice. Right now…he was in danger of being turned into the Siren’s dinner, yet he couldn’t seize hold of that weak terror to use as a springboard to get himself to freedom.
“What is it you fear?” The Siren suddenly spoke. Despite speaking in a normal, quiet tone, his voice cut through the crashing waves, the creaking of the sinking ship, the screams and yells of the ship’s crew. In that moment that he spoke, the Siren’s voice was all he could hear.
Gracefully slithering forward, the Siren reached out to Izuku. His face was calm, serious. There was no menacing aura about him; nothing malicious or sinister. The tips of the Siren’s fingers brushed lightly across his stomach. Izuku jolted, his breath catching. He had been freezing but the moment the Siren touched him, a wash of warmth rushed over his drenched skin. That touch, that warmth forced the realization of just how close the Siren was to the forefront of his mind. A sharp stab of panic pierced through his mind. Izuku instinctively jerked back. To his shock, instead of look enraged at him moving away, the Siren looked…hurt. Visibly trembling, the Siren reached up to gently cup the sides of Izuku’s face. Warm, smooth palms smoothed along his wet skin, bringing even more comforting heat.
“Why are you afraid?” The Siren asked softly, his pained gaze piercing into Izuku, “Will you not let me save you?”
The Siren leaned in even closer. The tips of their noses were almost touching. Warm breath, smelling of salt and sea, rolled across his skin. All Izuku could see was that deep indigo. All he could hear was the Siren’s voice echoing inside his head. The ship was gone, as were the panicked screams of its crew. Dragging his tongue across his bottom lip, his heart leaping oddly when the Siren’s gaze noticeably flickered down to follow the movement before jumping back to meet his eyes, Izuku opened his mouth to answer but hesitated at the last moment. He knew he shouldn’t speak…yet he couldn’t remember why. Pressing his lips tightly together, Izuku desperately tried to remember. His mind was so foggy. Trying to even think was like dragging a 100-pound weight through sludge. The harder he tried to remember, the denser the sludge became.
The pad of the Siren’s thumb brushed over the curve of his cheek, pulling his attention back to the beautiful creature. Staring into those deep, depthless eyes, Izuku wondered…was it even worth trying to remember? Why did it matter? He was warm, he was safe, he…he was loved…wasn’t he? The Siren…he loved him…he loved him from the depths of his heart so why…why should he remain quiet?
“Please,” The Siren whispered, “will you let me save you?”
“Yes.” Izuku breathed.
The moment that word left his mouth, a profound sense of relief washed over him. All the doubt, the panic, the fear vanished in an instant. Exhaling harshly, the Siren lunged forward, closing the distance between them. He smashed his lips against Izuku’s in a rough, desperate kiss. Moaning softly, Izuku pushed back into the kiss, shuddering when a sweet tasting tongue shoved its way between his lips. Warm, smooth hands roamed over his body, tugging and pulling at his drenched clothes. Izuku distantly felt himself being pulled forward, into the Siren’s firm, comforting hold. He loosely wrapped his arms around the Siren’s waist, anchoring closer together. Water closed in around him. The Siren’s hand curled into his hair. He was pulled down deep into the cold, peaceful depths, far away from the destroyed ship. Time became irrelevant. One moment, he was gliding through the water. The next, he was laid out on his back in what looked like a cave. The Siren hovered over him, a gentle smile on his handsome face. Staring up into those beautiful eyes, a swell of breathtaking happiness and adulation bloomed in the center of his chest.
Leaning down, the Siren brushed his lips against Izuku’s, “Will you tell me your name?”
“I…Izu…Izuku…” He mumbled, distantly wondering if that was truly his name. Who gave it to him? Were there people who called him that? He…he couldn’t remember. He couldn’t remember…anything. The realization didn’t alarm him. Why should he care when his lips were still tingling from the Siren’s sweet kiss?
“Izuku.” The Siren repeatedly happily, kissing him once again, “You want to stay here with me, don’t you, Izuku?”
“Yes…” Izuku trembled with jubilation.
“You’ll stay with me forever, won’t you, Izuku?”
“Yes…”
The Siren smiled, “Then I shall give you all of eternity, Izuku.”
