Patreon Newsletter #11: September 2022

From Arnie:

Wildly busy with life-stuff this month. Trying to unpack at my new place, getting my daughter ready for a new year at a new school (and everything that radiates out from that, aftercare etc). Also finishing up the most work-intensive last stretch in getting Nonsensory ready for the Jackbox Party Pack 9 this fall.

TV – The tv I watched this month from favorite to less favorite. I enjoyed all of it.

  1. Better Call Saul (the last batch of episodes) - Still have two episodes left but God it’s incredible.
  2. Bluey s3 - Only watched about half of the new episodes so far but God it’s incredible. (I wanted to have Bluey and Better Call Saul tied for number 1 but couldn’t figure out the formatting.)
  3. Sandman
  4. Master Chef (some old season with the kiddo)

Bonus: I also discovered my daughter watching the first episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender and I said, “Ahhh! Don’t watch that without me!” I’d been waiting to watch it myself until she seemed old enough. (To be clear, I was not upset that she was watching it… I was upset that I was missing it.) So hopefully we’ll dig into more of that soon.

Movies – Same deal: best to… least best. (Look, the first three on this list were great!)

  1. My Neighbor Totoro - I’m always happy when asked to watch it again. Such a beautiful movie.
  2. The Killing
  3. Prey
  4. Ghostbusters: Afterlife
  5. Descendents - The Disney Channel movie, not the George Clooney movie. (I also saw bits and pieces of Descendents 2 the next day.)

Games - (in no order)

Some Sad News

My oldest dog, Tea, had a heart condition that worsened throughout the summer. Lots of visits to the pet emergency room. An ever-expanding amount of medications. Thankfully her quality of life was still reasonably high but unfortunately to avoid a scary and painful death we had to make the tough decision to have her euthanized, which happened peacefully at Sarah’s home. She was a great dog and left behind many wonderful memories… plus so much dog hair that I’m sure I’ll still have some clinging to my clothes for years to come.

From Matt:

August, we hardly knew thee. I’ve mostly been looking for a new apartment this month, so this is probably going to be a short one from me. (editors note: he found one!)

TV/Movies/Web stuff:

Saw Everything Everywhere All at Once (again). Man, it’s so, so, SO good.

Books (all audio again):

Slowly getting through Kingdom of Gods (last book of the Inheritance trilogy).

Games:

I don’t think I’ve picked up a controller in weeks. Thinking about buying a gaming table for the new apartment though. Probably will do it. Eh, we’ll see. I don’t know. Need to buy a new couch first.

Food:

Got a kick of making tacos at home. If there are extra taco bits (plus salads/greens), we’ve been putting those leftovers in some pearl couscous to make a kind of meal for lunch. Nothing too experimental or exciting. Realized that La Mexicana Grill delivers to me and does burritos San Diego-style (with fries inside).

Packing also makes you realize how much stuff you have. Books, comics (+ toys in my case), clothes, so I’ve been trying to figure out what to donate, sell, or just other ways to simplify. Also working to cut down plastic consumption through using refillable cleaning products (not an ad). Hoping that I can continue composting at our new apartment, but I’m not sure they will offer service at this building. I’ll have to see.

MY

From Adal:

A couple of weddings and a birthday trip for my brother in law made this month travel heavy but a great time. I finally made it to New Jersey; former home of one Jemma Rifai. Highlights included: Hoagie Haven, Bent Spoon ice cream, Aljon’s Pizza, Grounds for Sculpture and a tour of Princeton’s campus! Oh also I swung by Grover’s Mill, NJ and found a big plaque honoring Orson Welles War of the Worlds radio broadcast and how like 1 in 5 people thought it was real or some shit. The plaque includes the image of a family of 3 sitting in the living room, scared out of their fucking minds. Imagine having the bandwidth to be solely afraid of horrors from the skies. MUST BE NICE.

We also went to NYC and got to catch the incredible remount of Into The Woods with maybe the most stacked lineup I’ve ever seen in a show. I’m leaving for NYC again in about 6 hours to check out A Strange Loop (which I hear is great) and go again to Sleep No More (my 10th visit!). Speaking of NYC….

Next week are 2 Hey Riddle Riddle live shows! Tuesday 9/6 show in NYC at The Bell House and Wednesday 9/7 in Washington DC at Union Stage (I believe there’s only 9 tickets left for this one). More info and tickets at: heyriddleriddle.com/live

Also! October 14th, Hello From the Magic Tavern will be live in NYC at The Bell House! You can find more info and tickets at: https://hellofromthemagictavern.com/live-shows

Here’s what I consumed in August:

Movies:

Other Stuffs:

Please let me know what you’ve been enjoying! Oh and as we ramp up to October, let me know any scary movies I should see!

Love,

Adal

Arnie, so sorry to hear about your dog. We had to put my best friend down not too long ago so I understand your pain Adal, I saw you were asking for horror recs, so I wouldn’t forgive myself if I didn’t mention Hell House LLC, it’s fantastic and the first two are on YouTube

I rarely ever come into the patreon page itself and saw this post. I ended up watching Bluey for the first time and it's the serotonin boost that I needed omg <3
