Patreon Newsletter #17: March 2023!

From Arnie

A pretty chaotic month. I’m still catching up after being out of commission from getting kidney stones and going through a pretty unpleasant (but successful) procedure to have them removed.

TV – Watched some good stuff this month.

  1. Poker Face
  2. Columbo
  3. The Last of Us
  4. Psychodyssey - A documentary series about the video game company Double Fine making Psychonaughts 2.
  5. Ninja Warrior
  6. Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy

Movies – Best to… less best.

  1. Tar
  2. Shallow Grave
  3. Eyes Wide Shut
  4. The Secret World of Arrietty
  5. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
  6. Venom: Let There Be Carnage - I watched this in the ER. The small amount of morphine I was on may have helped.

From Matt:

February went by fast. Feels like the year is still ramping up, but we’re actually in it. I have to remind myself that time is slipping by. I’ve been going to the gym more, something I haven’t done in many, many years. It’s good for my health and I’m hoping to lose some more weight to that end.

TV/Movies/Web stuff:

We watched The Wind Rises. I’m excited to see Miyazaki’s next film, How Do You Live?, and hoping it won’t take long to get a release date in the U.S. Haven’t been watching much else new because…

Games:

I dove back into Breath of the Wild (hard) in anticipation of Tears of the Kingdom. I suspect many of you have done the same. I can’t stop thinking about it. I just love it.

Collecting:

I have been watching some YouTube videos about Gundam model kits. I have a couple that I never completed, but I always want to do something like this. It feels like an interesting way to relax and be active? Create something that is fun and related to a fandom that I care about.

Food:

Omakase at AJI was awesome! Pricy, but worth it. Really wonderful people running the restaurant. Very intimate and informative. That last bit I didn’t expect. They had a programmable flip display board (like you’d see at an older train station) and they would explain each course and then put it on the board and we’d all discuss it more. We learned the Japanese and English names for most of the fish, but unfortunately their excellent sake list caused none of this to remain in my head.

From Adal:

Hey Baybees!

February started off with Jemma and I taking a cruise to Mexico which was a delightful time. Dare I say we’re becoming cruise people? I’m adamantly against sitting on beaches so I mostly sniffed out the most delectable food and walked around the markets. We stopped in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas with Mazatlan being the only semi-scary spot (we were told to stay on the ‘blue line’ that goes through the town; for our safety. GULP!).

Jemma and I have been trying to bowl more often since there’s a sweet little alley 5 minutes from us. Jemma consistently gets between 150 to 200. I mostly whip it as hard as humanly possible and pray for the best. Who do you think you are?! I AM!

Just last week we released the first episodes of a new podcast I’m hosting called      ‘Tell Me About It!’. It’s on the Multitude Network and is created and co-hosted by the wonderfully kind and talented Eric Silver. The premise is that I’m a billionaire obsessed with GREASE (surprise!) and my manservant Eric and I have our own game show where we put contestants through challenges and games to have them prove that their interests are actually interesting. It’s been a fucking blast to record and our first episodes that dropped are Matt Young discussing toy collecting and Janet Varney on miniatures! Upcoming episodes include JPC, Jeffrey Cranor and even a freaking doctor of space. It’d be pretty cool if you gave it a listen!

Here’s what I consumed in February:

Gosh Arnie, I’m so sorry about your kidney stones! I sure hope you’re feeling better. Matt, that Japanese dinner sounds like heaven! Adal, I love reading about all your travels! Also, total non sequitur, my daughter’s name is also Jemma (but spelled Gemma)! She’s five and amazing and also loved the new Puss in Boots (as did I).

Adal—we’ll need a full Japanese toilet review, too.

Getting in early to wish you Happy 8 Years!
