LIVE SHOWS & MERCH:

One week until our Chicago live show at Thalia Hall! We look forward to seeing you on Thursday the 11th AND we’re less than a month away from our San Francisco Sketchfest show, Saturday February 3rd, with special guest Ron Funches! You can find tickets for both live shows here.

We’ve also got a brand new Momo design in our TeePublic store!

From Arnie:

A busy month with finishing up season 4 of Magic Tavern and all sorts of holiday travel.

I also went to PAX Unplugged in Philly for the first time. One of the few PAX conventions I hadn’t been to before for Jackbox Games. Unplugged is more of a tabletop game convention than a video game convention (which is why Jackbox usually isn’t there) but this time I went and hosted a panel where we played a physical version of TeeKO… with artists drawing on big shirt shaped posterboards and the other panelists writing slogans to be velcroed onto them. And then audience members brought up to put the shirts together. It was a fun panel including Bill Amend (creator of the comic strip FoxTrot) who was very nice. I got to catch up with all my PAX friends (I realized I hadn’t been to a game convention since before the pandemic) and explore Philly a bit.

TV – In no particular order.

Movies – Best to… less best. A LOT of rewatched stuff this month.

  1. The Boy and the Heron
  2. Wait Until Dark
  3. A Fish Called Wanda
  4. Maestro
  5. The Burial
  6. Wonka
  7. Leave the World Behind
  8. The Santa Clause

Video Games

Allen Wake 2

Slay the Spire

Lethal Company (I played on Brooke Breit’s twitch stream a few times)

Super Mario Bros Wonder

From Matt:

As much as I love Hello from the Magic Tavern, I’m very glad to be wrapped on Season 4 and to take a short hiatus. We have some fun stuff planned out for the break and will be doing a couple of live shows to fill the gap. Even though I’m looking forward to the break, doing the last meet’n’greet on Discord was really fun and made me nostalgic for playing with Arnie and Adal already (and sharing the fun with all of you). We’ll be back before you know it.

Audio:

Listened to How Did This Get Made? episodes for A Very Nutty Christmas, The Dog Who Saved Christmas, and, of course, Face/Off. Enjoying the Wonka-Watch over on MBMBAM. Still don’t want to see that movie though.

Books:

I downloaded Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow based on a recommendation at a holiday party, but haven’t listened yet. Even though I have a backlog of books, I’m always looking for recommendations. Adal bought me a Brandon Sanderson book (which I still need to read). Any other good sci-fi or fantasy stuff? Good non-fiction is also welcome.

TV/Movies/Web stuff:

Look. We binged all of The Nanny. It has the same pitfalls of any sitcom that is 30 years old, but we had a hell of a good time. A fun show that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Fran Drescher would be a great Tavern guest and is on my dream list now. Also got some good holiday watches in: It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, Deck the Halls (the absolute worst ever, but also a great How Did This Get Made? episode), Christmas in Connecticut (impulse watch from recommended on Amazon; eh, it’s…okay? Weird and fun, but understandable why it’s name is not whispered amongst the classics), Muppet Family Christmas, and Emmett Otter’s Jugband Christmas (always gets me verklempt). Hoping to see The Boy and the Heron before it leaves theaters. COVID really screwed that plan.

Games:

Got back into Tears of the Kingdom after a bit of a hiatus and finally finished the fourth regional crisis. Looking for caves, upgrade ingredients, and Koroks until I finally just finish. Really dragging my feet. Played Gremlins: Holiday Havoc at Christmas. It’s a surprisingly fun little card game that actually fits thematically with the original movie.

Food:

A new Farm Bar location opened up not too far from me on Montrose Avenue in Chicago. We liked it so much we went to their original location like a week later after doing some late night holiday shopping and they got us in with five minutes to spare before the kitchen closed. I hate to do that to staff at a restaurant, but we were starving. Tipped like 40% on the bill, ate quickly, and got the f*** out.

Final Thoughts

I hope all of you are having a wonderful holiday or just enjoying some down time. Please take care of yourselves, and we’ll see you soon.

Matt
