The next morning, in the Queen’s office at the royal castle, Nermedia sat with a look of dissatisfaction, as if everything in the world annoyed her.

No matter how much time passed, there was still no word from Dayke about leaving the kingdom. She was worried about her daughter yet couldn’t bring herself to push her away or show her more affection. The frustration continued to build with each passing day.

'If only that happened... I’d be relieved.'

But something else was weighing on her.

An ogre had appeared—one she had neither seen nor heard of before. Although the knights had taken care of it, its appearance, following the earlier goblin incident, raised concerns. There was no guarantee similar threats wouldn't appear again. They couldn’t afford to let their guard down.

‘First, I need to assign more guards to patrol the surrounding forest, and then...’

Even without this new problem, Dayke already irritated her. Now, with more piling up, her thoughts were in disarray. She fought the urge to throw her pen and papers off the desk in frustration.

Just then, a servant entered the room and bowed respectfully.

“Your Majesty, a letter has arrived.”

“A letter? From whom?”

“It’s from the former Chief Justice, Kiella.”

“Kiella?”

Nermedia’s eyes widened at the name she hadn’t heard in a long time.

“Give it to me.”

She took the letter and read it carefully, from beginning to end. As she reached the last line, a faint, suspicious smile crept across her face.

‘…Yes. If it’s Kiella, she can deal with that human.’

Feeling as if a thorn had been pulled out, Nermedia folded the letter and set it aside. Her expression relaxed for the first time in days.

“You’re free this afternoon, right? I suppose I’ll need to meet with some of the knights.”
